'03 SSEi....Burning wire/oil pressure over 100....

Post by EAGLE »

There is a pretty thick guage wire coming from the drivers side ("front") of the engine, to a part mounted just behind lower part the radiator. its smoking and exposed. its as thick as a battery cable....what is it and why would it be hot? Plus, just yesyerday my oil pressure guage went up to just under 120 and ia staying there...moves a little on acceleration but not much. I just had the LIM gasket replaced a couple of weeks ago and its been running great. Any ideas?

Really? Nobody has any idea what that wire is or why it would relate to a high oil pressure indication?

Moat likely your oil pressure sending unit had failed as to why the pressure spike.

As for the wire, it shouldn't be hot at all, especially hot enough to smoke! If it is smoking then something is dangerously wrong and the car could catch fire! Something is shorted out or not tightened up enough with a large current draw through the connection point.

The front of the engine would be on the passenger side and the rear on the drivers side. Os the wire black or red?

There is a serious problem with that cable in your car, and I wouldn't recommend driving it until it is fixed. Honestly, I wouldn't even trust it in the driveway with the ignition off and battery still hooked up.

Trace the wire and see what its actually connected to. That will help us decifer what wire it is. Dont have a bonneville anymore to go look.

Also I agree with not driving it and disconnecting the battery. Otherwise you may be filing an insurance claim.

Thanks you guys. The cable is black, by the way. Still hot. I've had to drive it; been lucky I guess, but it started acting up yesterday....like it wasnt getting fuel and the service engine light is on again....I havent even had time to trace the cable. Its going back in the shop Monday. Ill disconnect the battery untill then.
