Black Wheels

I'm thinking about buying a second set of GXP wheels and painting them black. Going for that blacked out look. I've seen some pics of other people that have done this and not sure I like it. Opinions? My GXP is black. Limo black tint, smoked headlights and fog lights. I've also put MGP caliper covers on with black power coat and the GXP logo in silver.

Thats a lot of black.

I would suggest getting them black chromed. Cost is more but looks waaaaaaaay better than paint.

Have them PVD'd Black Chrome.

Honestly, GL finding a cheap set of GXP wheels. Everyone wants them, and most are willing to pay for them. Might be easier and cheaper to find another set of black 5 spoke wheels you like, as the GXP wheels themselves will be $800, plus $600 in PVD or powdercoating.

Honestly not sure I even want to do black wheels. I think the silver wheels breaks up the black enough. Some cars look really good with the black wheels. Not sure the gxp does. I think the ssei does, not sold on the gxp.

I think it's less the overall design of the car and more the mods and the color of the car....

My personal taste is powdercoated non stick flat metallic black. Frying pan wheels ftw.

Meh, not a fan. The one thing I was thinking of with mine, was painting/powdercoating the inset of each spoke a charcoal color or black. This way, it would give the face of the spoke more contrast as it rotated giving the eye the repetitive beauty while it rolled better than the all silver OEM look. I also did add black lug caps to mine which helped define the center "hub" of the wheel as it rotated.

I'd have even thought about doing the above, them machine facing the front (face) of the spokes. Similar to my wheels on the GTO.

Something simple that I did to my wheels, ..., Added a thin vinyl stripe.
Sure, it's odd, ..., but different, & you'd never notice how it was done until you walked right up to it.

After;

I drew up about 5 different types of strips, from wide, to tapered, ..., & finally stayed with this one.
They have been on there for about 3 months now, many washes, & not had any signs of peeling off.
And if I don't like it some day, ..., I simply peel them off myself.

Personally, I would do a gloss black. Looks pretty sinister to me! I will be doing this soon, just happened to stumble across this on cardomain. Leave the Arrowhead red, go with chrome lugs and your set

I'm still not sold. I get my car back from the body shop tomorrow. Had some scratches fixed and there was some rust around the hood latch I wanted fixed also. While it was there I had the headlights tinted, fog lights blacked out, the Bonneville and v8 emblems removed. I'm still thinking staying with stock wheels with black caliper covers with Pontiac in silver.

The blacked out stallion look is toooooo played out now a days.

I like to see some depth and contrast, not just a black sheet pulled over the car.

Not a fan of totally black wheels. They look like snow tire rims w/o hubcaps to me. Or donut tires.

Black on black on black is so monochromatic; even more so than a silver car with silver painted alloys. A little wheel color contrast seems necessary to make that black paint pop. How about chromed lug nuts and polished aluminum center caps and lip for those blacked out rims? Otherwise it starts to look like an unmarked copmobile...

:hit it: Those look fantastic. That little bit of black makes them grab your eye, compared to the generic all silver version. Subtle and unique, yet still OEM.

Got my GXP back from the body shop and here are some pics. What I have done so far is:

Tinted headlights
fog light covers (tint)
K&N drop in filter
Removed the Bonnevile and V8 emblems and replaced with GXP emblem on trunk (thinking about northstar emblem where v8 was)
Limo black window tint
GXP license plate frame with tinted cover

Still to come:

Slotted and dimpled rotors
new calipers
black caliper covers with "Pontiac" in silver
New ebony floormats with GXP in silver
