95 SE possible bad computer

I had the motor replaced in my car with a 2002 3.8 and i've had a knock sensor code ever since. My mechanic says that the sensors in the newer motor are not the same as the original because i guess the motor isn't out of a pontiac. he basically made a motor out of 2. Head gasket went in the original. Ive tried replacing sensors cleaning ground wires but i'm lost. the mechanic that did the work crimped new connectors for the sensors onto the harness. Short of paying to have the block retapped and threaded and having the old harnes put back on what should i do?
