I got 32 MPG!

So, as an experiment...I decided to take a slightly longer route back from Illinois heading toward Indiana, which was ALL highway (about 250 miles worth). In fact, I set my cruise control in the west suburbs of Chicago, and didn't even so much as tap my brake pedal, until it was time to take my exit in Fort Wayne. Also, I set the cruise control at about 62 MPH I think. So...I can't think of a better test for highway fuel economy than that. Filled 'er back up, and I got 32 MPG. Not too bad...but honestly, with it being AAAALLLLL highway, and at about 60 MPH, I was hoping for more like 34-35MPG, although 32 is nothing to cry about. At least I know what I can get now. Who's done better? I'm just curious.

Not bad! I averaged 32.3 from Dakota, MN to the IL/WI border in March.

I got 33 MPG on the way home from Eria, PA last weekend in the 00 SE I just bought.

It is doable if you're easy on the pedal. I set the cruise at 68 MPH.

I've never gotten better than 26 in my Ei, because I drive fast, lol.

I am excited to check mine next week. My DIC is only off by .2 of an MPG and last week it said I was doing 28.3 mpg @ 75.

That is still pretty good. My step-dad averages about 33 mpg @ 60 mph in his 04 SLE.

I got 39 mpg in my old LeSabre once. I was doing 55 mph for about 15 hours going from SC to PA. 32-33 mpg tanks were pretty common for me with that car in the summer.

I got 48 mpg in my Cruze today, lol. Best I've ever seen was 55 mpg doing all highway driving.

So far I am pretty impressed with my '02 SLE, about 26 MPG average :)

18 MPG in the '03 SSEi if I drive it
22 MPG in the '03 SSEi if Heather drives it
12 MPG in my Cutlass no matter how I drive it
14 MPG in my Z71

Well..my mileage with the Fusion is obvious..about 19 in the city..and about 25 highway.

Ultra gets about 17 city and 25 highway also.

I've gotten 34.7 as my record. But it was at like 57 MPH, and the freeway was immaculate.

When I had my L36 Monte Carlo Z34, it consistently got 27mpg highway, no matter how it was driven, or whether it was 55, 65, or 75mph. Once I got 29mpg....doing 80mph, lol.

'91 Olds 88 - consistent 29mpg, cruise set at 70, not necessarily taking it easy, either. LOVE the consistent numbers I always got with the 3800's. Both the Monte and the Olds got 17-19mpg in all city driving.

As for the Fords - they're kinda inconsistent. The Mustang gets anywhere from 25-29mpg highway for any rhyme or reason. The Fusion just got 29.1 on a trip, with the cruise set at 69mph for 75% of the trip, and 60mph for the other 25%. If I kept it at 55-60mph, the computer is telling me it's capable of 30-33mpg. Both Mustang and Fusion get 17-19mpg all city driving. The F150 gets a miserable 10mpg in the cold, all city driving....but I've also seen 18-19mpg highway.

A '99 Grand Cherokee 4.0L I used to have (loved that vehicle), got unreal numbers. It somehow got a consistent 23mpg at 62-65mph. Even got 25mpg twice! And that with almost 210k on the clock.

I think 32 is a great number!! 30 is probably the highest I've gotten on my Bonneville (I average around 21 most of the time). Although, I have reached 35mpg consistently in the past on my LeSabre over the 320 mile round trips back and forth from the school I was attending at the time.

The best I ever got in any car I've ever owned was 37 mpg in my '86 Olds Calais Supreme (2.5L Tech4 engine) between Boone, N.C. and Columbia, S.C. in about 1989. That included about 30-40 miles of coasting down the mountain and barely touching the accelerator.

The best I ever got in an H-body car was 35 mpg in my '97 Olds LSS between St. Augustine, Fla. and Columbia, S.C. in January of 2005. This was on VERY flat ground.

The best I've done in my Bonneville was 34 mpg* on a round trip between Greensboro, N.C. and Raleigh, N.C. last October. I put an asterisk on this one because it's a mathematical estimate. I had filled up the day before and noted as I got onto the highway that I had driven 42 miles around town. When I filled up on my way back into Greensboro, I estimated the mileage for the entire tank at 31 mpg. I then subtracted those 42 miles (at a conservatively estimated 19 mpg) from the total driven. The remaining miles thus averaged out at 34 mpg.

If I'm easy on the gas, the Tahoe will get 18 in town. I've gotten 21 highway so long as I keep it at 65. Dual exhaust and no catalytics do make the difference.

28.5 with the cruise @67... but I did over-ride it occasionally and had some crappy city driving in there.

24.0 on my last tank of my daily-routine driving
26.7 when I was storm chasing a few weekends ago

Oh, and I have a fuel leak to boot by the tank now. I'm thinking its vent or return line; I can smell it but there are no puddles. Haven't had the chance to look at it yet

I bet you would have gotten the 34-35 if you weren't using cruise. I can consistently see these numbers when cruising around 70 without cruise. According to my Aeroforce, the second I set the cruise, on average it takes 1-2% more throttle to maintain the same speed. Just what I have observed.

If you have a super steady foot and pay absolute attention to what you're doing, then yeah it's better than cruise. Also, if you look at your Aeroforce and see it go up 1-2% that instant, it's because it speeds up a little then lets off till it hits the speed it wants.

If you're like me and can look down and be going 68-69 in a 55, then cruise is better for you.
