Photo timeline of my now gone 99 SLE...

Post by 99-SLE »

Well Guys and Gals, She's officially gone :( Spent 10 months and 35,000kms together

Tried to get one last drive out of her, from Edmonton, back to Nanaimo BC. Trip was less than successful, ended up leaving the Bonne in Salmon Arm for ICBC to pick up, and had a friend jump on the ferry and drive thru some of the worst road conditions I've ever seen to come and pick my sorry ass up...

Ended up settling on $4490 for it... Looking for work now that I'm back in BC, and then a car.
Here's some pics and a quick description of each (most have been posted before, just not the ones at the end, weak eyes look away)

Sitting patiently awaiting her third and final heart...

Then was hit and run in January...

Right front wheel bearing had started to make some noise around this time. I had purchased the part, with intents of replacing it until the accident happened. Decided I'd wait it out and see what they said. Car was declared a write off, and started working towards moving home at the same time. Returned the wheel bearing and decided I'd try and make it home with the car, before I turned it into Insurance.

I left Edmonton on a Friday night to try and beat a storm that was coming in the next day, so I packed all my stuff in and headed for BC. Made it to Golden BC, fuelled up, and was continuing on when the wheel bearing got even worse. It was moving so much i guess the rotor was moving, and hitting the pads, and boiling my brake fluid, so I had no brakes as I drove a mountain pass in a white out... Ended up making it to Revelstoke BC, as the wheel bearing got hot enough to blow up the CV boot, spraying grease everywhere, and the wheel well was smouldering at one point. Was so fed up by this point...

This was after I bypassed the RF brake caliper and kept driving. Was meeting my buddy in Salmon Arm so I could drop the car at the gate of the insurance salvage yard there...

This is what it looked like when I pulled into S.A

Image

Tried to back into my parking spot at the hotel I got, swung out to reverse in, and she wouldn't move. Gave her some more gas, LF tire spun, while the RF tire dragged behind. The car didn't move from this spot, and the Tow truck was called to the Hotel.... :(

Oh man, what a sad sight! Put so much work into that car to get her back on the road and reliable, just to have it all end. I could imagine how you felt...

Any idea what your next car will be?

No idea, nothing similar around me. Been driving my old Jeep YJ around for the time being. Have been looking at some TDi Jetta's and Golfs. Am not buying a car until I'm working again, so will have to see what's available when that time comes.

So sorry to hear it. My Bonnie just threw a rod so I started over, but it was nothing as bad as pouring a bunch of money into it then have it give up the ghost while traveling. Glad you made it to your destination okay though. Thank God for friends that'll help out in a pinch!

Sad to see this one go, but we're all happy that you made it through. If you put 3 hearts in that one, I can't wait to see what you'll do for your next ride.

This one kinda fell into my hands to replace an aging (and not gracefully...) 95 Integra. Not sure what direction I'll be going in as for what I'm looking for.

This is one of the best car communities I've been lucky enough to be a part of, Many many knowledgeable people always willing to help somebody out.... The Honda/Acura guys just aren't the same;)

This actually brought a tear to my eye. It reminded so much of being forced to get rid of my 99. Sad to see, hopefully whatever happens now works out for the best.

I'm starting to worry, Haven't heard from my Insurance adjuster in 2 weeks now if not longer. Have left 4 voice mails, and I called again yesterday to no avail.... I'm hoping they did pick up the car from where it was, and I'm not getting charged $75 bucks a day by an impound yard somewhere.

This nightmare just doesn't want to go away!! I just need to get my money and into something else. I started a fuelly on my YJ... 18.9L/100k is almost exactly double what the Bonne was!! Terrible
