Found this on CL...

http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/bar/2790190929.html

Going to take a look tomorrow morning. If it's in ok condition, I'll either keep it as backup vehicle (Impala is gone finally!, and Karen doesn't want the Camaro anymore) or I'll clean it up and relist it once spring rolls around. Talked to the guy and he said the car is in great shape other than the oil blowing out of the fill hole :dontknow:

Never experienced that on anything I've worked on. What should I look out for? I know most of what to look for, just not anything specific to the 2k gen.

That car is extremely rare, came TURBOCHARGED from the factory!! haha,

I haven't ran into that issue either. Would be interested in seeing what the issue is.

No title!?

I wonder what he means by oil blowing back out the fill hole, is it just a little pressure like a bad PCV valve, or tons of pressure that literally blows oil out like maybe a hole in a piston or fried rings?

Ditto Brad.. If it is litterally blowing oil out the oil filler, then it is creating a lot of positive pressure inside the block.

My guess is piston rings and badly worn cylinder bores. PCV maybe, but enough pressure to get past the o-rings on the Oil filler is a lot of pressure.

No title cars are common place here. Replacement titles are easy to do, but time consuming. I'll check the PCV first, if that isn't it I know where I can find a drop-in motor pretty cheap.

I had a car do that once. It was a bad fuel pressure regulator, dumped a lot of gas into the oil and the excess pressure actually blew the dip stick out of the engine, poured oil and gas out too, but the card didn't run fine.

Talked the guy down to 800 bucks. Picking it up next week, which gives me time to clean the garage out of unwanted/needed stuff.

The good
1) It's an SSEi.
2) It's black w/graphite interior.
3) Sunroof
4) Aside from the interior being dirty (as in heavy dust, like being in a body shop for a while), the interior is pristine. Leather is in great shape, and after a few days of heavy cleaning, it'll be great.
5) It has 140k on it. Not too bad.
6) No rust. No hood herpies. No gas door destruction.

The bad
1) There's *some* blowby. Not to the point of engine retirement, but a new engine will have to be sourced in a year or so.
2) Passenger rear door is dented enough to warrant replacement. Passenger front door is also dented, but nowhere near as bad. Suction cup should fix it.
3) Battery is toast.
4) Front bumper paint is flaked. Combined with issue #2, a full repaint will be in its future. Fall more than likely.
5) Tires. Needs them.

Plans
1) Title 42 will take a few weeks. Karen has a client that can get it rather cheaply.
2) During that time, interior will get worked on. Stripped out, sound dampened, anything broken will be Haro-sourced. Center console top will need to be refinished.
3) Going to research a possible LS4 swap. This platform *should* make this swap possible, IF the subframe is similar to the W-body.
4) My goal with this car is to make it a very nice DD and over-the-road car, so what needs replacement will get replaced.

And here I was thinkin' I was done with Bonnevilles :btruestory:

:eek2: LS4! Cool!

I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like when ya get it. :btruestory:

I looked into the LS4 swap on the 92-99 platform (and 87-91 by proxy). The way the subframes are designed made it impossible. The 2k model subframes are flat for the most part, like the W-bodies. The engines mount in a similar fashion, as do the transmissions. Don and I toyed around with the idea for a while, and on the 2k models it seems entirely possible to do, from a mechanical standpoint.

The DoD crap can go. Replace the DoD lifters with normal ones, block off the oil switching manifold that activates them, and add an LS1 manifold from an F-body. Take the '0411 PCM and do a few segment swaps so it can effectively control the 4T65e. You now have an LS4 that thinks it's an LS1 and will act as such. And in a car that, if geared right, will blow the doors off the GXP :)

Of course, a built up 4T65E? The LS4/4T65E combo tends to go through trans', from what I've heard. :btruestory:

Garage is cleaned out for it. Camaro is gone (stripped of all usable parts. Tahoe is getting the remote start, installing that real soon). I can now park two cars in there now...one more good cleaning day will get me a third parking spot.

Karens criteria is met with this car...sunroof, black, swoopies, leather, and heated seats. Doesn't hurt that my criteria follows hers ;)

Gonna post 2k model specific questions in other forums.

Finally picked it up on Saturday. Been busy with moving and psuedofamily issues so no pics. Right now I have the car in storage but should have it in the new garage in a few weeks.

The rednecks I bought the car from had been mucking with car since I first went to look at it. CEL is on, sounds like it's drop a coil pack or misdirected plug wires. Got a feeling the LIM gaskets are more than done for, but the engine has no rod knocking, so that's encouraging. Not that it matters much

I've already planned on a powertrain swap, which is why I'm not entirely concerned with the engine right now. I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do. An LS4 would be super sweet, and is entirely possible in this platform, but I'm not too thrilled about the oil consumption issues they have. Other forums have shown that if an LS4 (and other DoD LS motors) have the DoD system replaced with conventional lifters the oil consumption goes away (just deactivating the system helps, but the lifter replacment is the best option).

Option 2 is more of a 2a or 2b option. It would involve an L32 swap. 2a would dictate keeping the S2 PCM and TB, while 2b would be a full-on L32 swap with DBW. I may or may not do tapshift (if I do, it will be shifter-based like the G6 or the previous generation Malibu). I would use that Comp cam that's been sitting doing nothing on either setup.

Pricing out the options now, that's about all I can do at this point. It'll be a fun ride regardless.

I wouldn't do DBW...

DBW No...Tapshift though...

There's nothing wrong with the DBW setup, and it's only a few more wires to deal with. In the GP it felt rather nice. If I stay with cable, tapshift will not be an option. The hardest part about doing the DBW would be the gas pedal and the wiring for it.

Just curious, when are the pics coming of the "new" ride? - BC

If you do go Tap Shift I'm interested in seeing your build. Something I have planned for my soon coming SSEi.
