Hey There, my name is Rachel and I am new to this group. I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE and I have a bit of a problem and could use some help.

I backed out of my garage a few weeks ago and smacked my passenger side mirror off. I have been doing a lot of research and purchased the same mirror at a junk yard. It works, I just have to fix a paint scratch. I would rather install the mirror by myself instead of having to pay someone to do it.

I have looked all over the web but can not find a step by step guide on replacing it or what I should do. Do I need to disconnect the battery? Is there a lot of screws and clips? Is this a job I could do by myself? I know that I have to take my door panel off to get the old mirror off and put the new one in but not sure how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, any advice on if I should have someone fix the paint chips or if I should do it on my own.

Thanks again,
Rachel

This is a fairly easy job, took me about 20 minutes. You need to remove the tweeter assembly (carefully, There is one clip holding it on which tends to break.), and the foam insulation piece behind it. After that, there are three (10mm IIRC) nuts over threaded studs that you remove, and an electrical connection either in the triangle corner of the door where the nuts are, or just a bit lower in the door panel. I do not recall having to pull the door panel off. Disconnect that and it should feed through a grommet in the door, allowing the removal of the mirror assembly. Installation would be the reverse of removal.

For the paint chips, I would just get a bottle of touchup paint from an auto parts store to match it.

Welcome to the club! Technical questions should go into the appropriate forum section (in this case 2000-2005 other than GXP) for future reference. :btruestory:
