my 98 bonneville se will shut off while driving for some reason. after coasting to a stop you can turn the key on and when you hear the fuel pump come on and prime you can crank it and drive on. sometimes it may take turning the key 10 20 times until you hear the full pump before it will crank. i have changed the fuel filter thinking it may be stopped up and it still has the problem. there was a time that i was powering the window up when the car died and the window lossed power also, but then begain to roll up again. can someone tell me anything about this problem. any help would be nice... thank you............................

Unhook your battery, clean any corrosion from the ends (peel back the rubber covers and clean in there too), then retighten them (don't over do it, they can strip out), and try again.

my 88 bonneville had the same symptoms you are getting and my problem was a bad torque converter clutch in the transmission. all i did was unplug and the car stayed running fine. gave me less gas millage but atleast the car stood running

88, that isn't going to work on any car 92 or newer. That's not a fix, either.
Chances are near 100% that it's the driver or passenger side ground bus, or the battery cables themselves. Go after all 3.

My car has been sitting up for several months while I've been out of state on a job. When I got home the other day, the car would crank & run for just a few seconds and then die. I figured plugged fuel filter because fuel pressure didn't seem high enough. That didn't help. That's when I noticed that power windows wouldn't work and the power seat would just click. I checked the cables, battery and grounding, and everything checked out OK. That's when I came across this forum and discovered there's a grounding buss by the driver's door. It took less than 10 minutes to access it, clean the corrosion off and replace the trim. Everything's working OK now.
My thanks to you guys for identifying this problem and easy fix!
Terry
