Stock Bose 6x9's...question about upgrading

Hey guys...seems to me the sound system is great in this car, but lacks some serious thump.

The rear Bose speakers seem to have a little tiny magnet, and they seem like the Walmart version of a speaker, with Bose pasted on it. Has anyone just straight upgraded these rear deck speakers with a better speaker, and if so, what were the results? Is it worth the time?

I have done my Grand Prix systems by taking the rear speaker outputs into a small amp, and then adding a small sub, and putting some viable 6x9's in the back, funnelling some power to them and the sub via the amp. Wondering what other guys have done for a basic improvement??? Will the 6x9 upgrade simply be enough powered by the Bose stock system?

TIA...

If you replace the bose speakers and run them off the stock amp your volume level will go down, I installed an aftermarket amp and ran full range rca signals from my pioneer HU

Thats a pretty sketchy way to do it. The blows(bose) rears are 2ohm and most aftermarket 6X9s are 4ohm, so youd literally get half the power.

What you COULD do is get a 10" DVC sub with 2ohm coils and a low pass filter ( i cant recall if the tweets and woofers back there get a different signal). Run the power from each side to one of the coils.

Thing there is that since the stockers are in the rear deck and share the airspace with the cab, youll get more out of them than an underpowered sub in the trunk.

So my advise would be to use an amp with speaker level ins and power a sub. Personally I fee that upgrading rear speakers, especially 6X9s is a waste and the money would be better spent buying better fronts.

There aren't any tweeters back there, the 00-01 bose systems have two 1ohm speakers wired as a single 2ohm sub, they don't get any high frequencies from the amp.

Take a look here for more info

Ah, thats what it was. One could easily try running a dual 1ohm sub off them, but more power is the only way to go.

the closest speaker i have seen is Infinity reference 6x9 2 ohm ea. I don't know how it would sound.... but they will be the closes thing to a 1ohm 6x9 i can find. Ohh and you don't want a Fatty Magnent on the stock amp, it would probably push something like 25watts so it would not be big enough for alot of speakers. Ohh and i would consider disconnect the tweeter in the center if it did get some distortion (clip the wires going to the center of the mangnent).

Stupid question, but I gather the stock head unit does not have an RCA output does it?

If you're looking for some quick bass I just replaced the rear deck 6x9's with Kicker KS693's. Will admit some power loss back there prolly, but if you're lookin to hear every bass note in a song from hood rap to chilli peppers I highly recommend these.
