P0446 Code

Talk about the other 3800 powered GM cars, particularly for items not covered in other sections that may be unique to your year/model, and differ from a Bonneville.

P0446 Code

Post by BonneBill »

2007 Buick Lucerne, 3800 engine. Had 1/2 tank of gas, so I went to fill up. Pump worked fine for 3 gallons and then kept shutting off repeatedly. Moved to another pump, same thing. Only managed to put 4 gallons in the car. Gauge now reads 3/4 full, which is about right. Checking the car with my scanner revealed a P0446 code. This kind of explains why the gas pump was acting funny. Obviously, I have a gas tank venting problem somewhere. Either a line or a solenoid. Anyone have any experience with this?

My only bad experiance with getting gas into the tank was due to blockage. Someone tried to siphon the gas out and left part of the hose inside the neck.

Found the cause of the problem last Friday. There are two purge valve solenoids in the evap control system. One on the intake manifold, the other on the charcoal canister. The one on the charcoal canister was inoperative. $35 at the GM dealer and we're back in business.
