Passenger window express down mode mod

Post by sonoma_zr2 »

A lot of newer vehicles have express down for both front windows, but up through 1999, they never thought about putting them in the Bonneville. This will show you how to fix that oversight.

Acquire a express down module from a donor Bonneville, you have to remove the drivers door panel to get to it.
Here is where you will find it.

Getting rid of all the ties and tape show us where the wires go to.

Unplug the connector and cut the other 3 wires back far enough to give you enough leads.

The module works by sensing the down command from the windows switch (.3 sec or more hold on the switch), then applying power to the window motor till it senses the motor has stopped (by current draw). We hook it into the window circuit in 3 places.

First is by separating the connection at the motor. Since this module runs the motor, we pull the current connector at the motor.

and put in the connector from the module.

Then we connect the pulled connection to the input of the module. You won't have a connector on these wires, so I just soldered the wires and stuffed them into the connector. You would then bend the inserted wires onto the connector and plastic tie them to the connector, making it impossible to pull out. You could also cut off the connector, solder and seal the connection. Tie dark blue to dark blue, then the other leads (they won't be the same color, most likely brown and tan).

Tuck up the wires and secure module in the same place it came from on the drivers door. The attach point won't be there, unless you want to get really crazy and pull it from the drivers door, make a hole for it in the passenger door. I just wrap it and tie it to the door.

The last connection is the power wire. From the schematic we see it is a brown wire.

But there are 2 brown wires on the passenger window switch.

This tells us which wire to tie into.

Pole "A" is where we tap into, it is the one next to the dark blue wire

That's it! Now both front windows have the express down mode. Enjoy.

Does it work like that from the drivers side window control?

Very nice write up on the window switch mod. =D>

Yes, it operates the same from both switches.
