The new truck

Post by myfirstbonnie »

The Suburban price is now reduced and we already bought another truck. Ended up getting a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD. It is pretty plain, but it is just what I wanted. It will be easy to keep clean and not a lot of little gadgets to worry about failing.

Holy crap that was quick, lol. Essentially the same truck as the 03 we had, ECSB with the 6.0 and 4T80E. I wouldn't have picked it, but it should serve you well. I'm assuming that's vinyl, not leather, right?

Are a chrome grille and tint are first on the list?

Also just noticed it's 2WD, lol. I suppose in OR you really don't need 4x4...

Do not, in the name of all things holy, get a chrome grille for it.

Color-match it!

The thing you have to keep in mind is that this is going to be a puller for a travel trailer. There is very little that is going to change on this. The only thing we plan on doing is putting in a different stereo with a nav system. We wanted to keep the cost of the truck down so we can put more towards a nicer trailer. This is rated for up to 10,300, so it should pull just about anything we want.

Yes, it is vinyl, so is the flooring. We plan on taking our dog with us and the hair will be easier to vacuum out.

BTW, I am already loving the extra power it has over the burb.

Tint the windows as dark as you can get away with. Then I'd get some used polished aluminum HD wheels, still holding out for mine.

The motor would benefit from an intake kit of some sort. I'm pretty sure there are lots of good options out there for you.

Cody, a body color grille would look like a white dog turd IMO.

Ed, there is a wise saying, "Opinions are like assholes, everyone got one!" If you think it'll look good, that's fine, I just happen to think differently.

My dad's Ford had a black grille so I painted it white for him for less than twenty bucks.

Looked great.

Pretty sure he already said that there is very little that will change on the truck, guys.

I like it, Matt. Very simple. Plus you gotta love a 6.0L.

What kind of beaver related name should it get?

The great white beaver?
The traveling beaver?

Or will it be poultry related...

The road crossing chicken
The ostrich
the white albatross
Foghorn Leghorn

I could go on lol

I second the advice on the plastic bedliner. Lose it. They are very bad news. I'm betting it's there to hide existing scratches. You can get a DIY bedliner kit (can, roller, brush) that actually works quite well. Much better than plastic.

Nice find!

Yeah, I will probably lose the bedliner, but I just can't take it out and use it as a lawn ornament. I would have to find somewhere for it to go.

CL. It'll sell. Put 50 bucks on it and see where it goes. That'll pay for the Herculiner kit.

I've also heard good things about Duplicolor's Bed Armor system, supposedly got kevlar in it. The full kit is like $110 with all the stuff you'll need from Advance, might be cheaper online.
