Three days ago I had the dex flushed out of my new 2001 SSei bonnevlille, yesterday i smelled burning coolant and found a leack on the inlet valve (not sure if thats the right name, couldnt find the name or a write up in my hanes) I took the 10mm bolts out and inspected the Gasket??? in the valve and all looked good, cleaned the surface and made a gasket and it stopped the leak, until this morning, although the leak is not as bad i still want it gone. Can anyone help me with this problem. Does anyone know the name of this valvle or the parts in them and where i can buy them at if they need to be replaced. Thanks in advance Zach

I would call that a thermostat housing gasket.

Yep that must be the name! Now all i have to do is sit back and wait two weeks for the little gaskets to be shiped from the states to my door here on this little island!! Guess that gives me some time to enjoy some budlights and my new running shoes....unless you think its safe to drive as long as i watch the coolant levels and not endulge in budlights while behind the wheel

Get some RTV and seal it up with that. Just as good as a gasket. Just be sure to clean both surfaces of rust/corrosion/crap before applying. A scotch-brite disc or a wire-wheel on a drill or die-grinder will work great.

The later years didn't even come with a gasket there, just the o-ring around the thermostat. I would see if that's missing or damaged. It looks like it may be and someone used sealant to make up for it.

I replaced the housing O ring, and there is still a small leak. When i pulled the housing off the first time i did not find any gasket, and so i made a gasket out of RTV, it slowed the leak but still leaked. Sould i put another layer of RTV down again to try to stop the leak with the new O ring???

When you had the housing off did you happen to see if it had any cracks in it?

When you take the housing off again inspect it and the mating surface for cracks and or corrosion.

The o-ring/gasket that goes around the thermostat should be all that is needed to seal things up. If you want to put a THIN layer of RTV silicone on the housing you can. This should get everything sealed back up again.
