MPG

Post by wowzer »

97 Bonneville SE, Car has 168K on motor. After replacing the intake & gaskets, spark plugs, wires, I have lose some MPG. Used to get 20 to 24 city and 30-32 on highway, have gotten as high as 39mpg on 1 trip thru the smokey mtn w/car fully loaded. Now I'm at 15-20 city, 25 highway. Car run great, starts every time, has quick acceleration, no engine noises, a pleasure to drive. Is there a spark plug and wires that are best for the motor or any other suggestions U can come up with? Thanks wowzer

Wires aren't going to affect fuel mileage if they're good. What plugs are you using? When was the last time you checked tire pressure? Did your area recently go to 10% Ethanol, or has it been that way for awhile?

As I was looking for vac leaks I noticed that the 2 lines that run to the evac unit were crossed. I don't know what effect that would have on MPG but we will soon see!!

Plugs will have that big of an impact on the mileage. I have 1994 SSEi and have been using the recommended plugs and never been over 19mpg?

Uncross those evap lines. Also, what are you using for gas, plugs, and tire pressure? All of that will have a big impact on fuel economy.
