1995 Radio Problem

Post by weswright21 »

I've got a '95 sse. Unplugged the radio trying to hunt down and cut wire under the dash ( previous owner cut the wire ) and now the radio does not work. It worked perfectly fine before I unplugged it so I assumed it was locked, so I went through the sequences to un the radio and nothing will happen. It will accept and eject cd's and if i press "recall" the time will show and if the hit a presents twice it will display the time but thats all. The buttons will illuminate at night but not the display until i press recall and then i get the time. I then preceded to put an aftermarket in thinking the stock radio went bad, aftermarket radio (tired a Pioneer and a Sony) both do the same thing, accept and eject cd's, button illuminate at night, but no display or sound. Anyone have any ideas for me? (there are no blown fuses)

From what you describe, sounds like the ignition wire got cut. It is pin #9 on the radio (right next to the battery wire which is pin 10 on the radio) There are tiny numbers on the back of the radio right next to the pins that indicate each pin. The battery wire on the radio is obviously working since the time shows when you press recall and CD's can be loaded and will eject. In your case the radio thinks the key is still off even though the key is on.

When you turn the key to on or accessory, the time should always show on the radio.

Spent all morning chasing wires from the radio back and there were no broken, cut, or damaged wires that I could see.
