Turbod Bonne?

just tossing the idea out there, i have yet to ever see anyone try to turbo a bonne,
whether it be not cost effective, or just because its alot of modifying. but ive been thinkin,
if i would be to give this a shot, and my info is right,
id be the first one to do it. and set some mean records!

like i said, its just brainstorming,
but it really does seem like it would be a much faster way of making 350+ whp
and that, would be a very interesting thing.

if anybody else has thought about it, or heard of anyone trying it, id love to hear it.

Definitely not the first.

The coolest I remember was PontiacJeff who made a dual charged series 2. So, both an m90, and a turbo charger. somewhere around 450 hp iirc

Quite a few W bodies run turbos.

With the basic supporting mods, and a good tune, considered instant 12's. The top end pickup is HUGE and makes the difference in the 1/4.

But you wouldn't be the first, Mike, so if that's the only reason you want to do it, then forget it. It's been done before. However, if you want the other benefits, go for it. There have been a number of blown engines b/c of it, tho. Just like cams, turbos are hard on 3800's...

i know about all the GP's and all that, regals, etc, but never seen a bonneville. thats what i ment.

either way, its a build that would probably produce the most power for time/money spent.

Mechanically they're the same under the hood.. It's been done before, just had a different badge on it :btruestory:

i watched those.. i know, im sad now. but it doesnt mean its still not a good idea!

cuz its either

genV/ic/e85/building stock tranny

-or-

L26/36 uim/turbo kit/e85/80e

short term the turbo kit will be more expensive, but itll make more power in the long run.

if i can find either setup tho for really cheap, i think i might just go with whatever, because im getting married in like 3 months,
and it seems counterproductive to spend so much cash with a wedding coming up.

anywho, if anyone hears about a used turbo kit, id love to see it.

The tranny is going to be more important if you stay with the supercharger rather than go Turbo. Torque is what kills the trans. You'll lose that low-end torque off the line with a Turbo.

ive considered twin charging, just for the badass effect, but that seems like way to much tuning work..

very true about the trans tho, so i mean i might as well go with the 80e regardless, if i can find one.

my buddy locally can help with the install, hes a master at building 3800's

the only issue, is finding one, ive looked around all over, these things are rare i guess.

IIRC, the 4TH80 is a N* only trans.

This isn't really true. Chain stretch is a huge problem with turbo setups and not really an issue with m90 cars.

a buddy of mine knows how to match them up, i have no idea how it would work, but he claims it can be done!

I'd go built 4T65E long before I'd go 80E. The 4T80E is a huge transmission that steals a ton of torque, plus is designed for the N*, not the 3800. Plus you'd need to piece together a PCM tune, etc. Build your 65E.

You already have a new-ish trans. Run it till it blows then get a new trans from Dave at TripleEdgePerformance. They are the 4T65E gurus.
