wheel balance / shimmy issues at high speed

Sorry for all the posts guys but perhaps I can help somebody this time. My 05GXP has only 24k on it but I bought it with 18k on it 6 months ago but it came with a shimmy in it at any speed over 65mph. Had a few different local big chain tire places rebalance the tires and I gave them a directive: "I want these tires perfect" but nobody got it right. Researched on-line about a special machine that does a special balance called "Road Force Balance", not all tire places have such a machine BUT I found a discount tire that did. It costs $20 per tire. They actually find the heavy spot on the wheel AND the heavy spot on the tire and set them opposite, so in effect they balance both the wheel and the tire. MAN THEY GOT IT PERFECT FIRST TIME!!! This car is like glass at any speed. I also had one tire that would not balance within the "road force" machine spec so I ended up having to buy 2 new tires for the front. (OUCH, them Goodyear's are expensive).
2 tire shops tried a total of 4 times to use standard balance techniques to get the shimmy out but only the "Road Force Balance" machine made it right. This is more common than you think.
Hope that helps somebody.

Are you still running the stock GY Eagle RSA's?
I assume you are at such a low mileage. Anyway, my point is; this issue is common with those tires. The only way I could get rid of the shimmy was to get new tires.
Cheers.

Ugh, you could've bought 4 new, better tires for what you probably paid for those RS-A's. They are the crappiest tire I have had the inexperience of driving. Should've done a little research b4 buying. I have never kept an OE tire on our vehicles, they suck too bad. The Bridgestone Dueler's on our new Suburban might be the first to change that.

Agreed, RS-A's are a jack of all trades, master of none, that are extremely expensive since they're direct OEM replacements.
There are soooooooooo many better tires out there that are cheaper (some by siginificant amounts), and perform light years better. Even if you pay the price for another set of Goodyears (Or even a set Michelin's), at least get a truly good set of tires that'll leave the RS-A's sucking wind. I had Eagle F1 A/S's on mine. About my only complaint with them was that they wore quickly and when they did, they could get a little noisey. But that may be more my driving style than anything...

Thanks for the advice guys, no i did not buy more of the RSA's due to the outragous price, I ended up putting the Perelli equivelent on it because the tire place had only those or Michellin's in stock. The Perelli seems to be pretty nice. But i still have the RSA's on the back.

Funny I just had this same problem. Had tires rotated and balanced but still at pretty much exactly 65 MPH could feel a vibration.

I had the same problem when I switched to summer tires (same tires I used last summer) So I brought it back and the tire shop used this really nice Hunter wheel machine. It's like a dyno for tires. They also found a heavy spot on one tire so they turned the tire 180 degrees on the rim and that took care of the heavy spot. Rebalanced all 4 tires and it rides great now.
