tranny shifts hard

Post by dwight »

i have a 2000 3.1 v-6 chevy malibu. I just finished putting on manifold gaskets, alot of things have to be moved or taken off to get to the manifolds. No leaks but now my automatic trans. shifts hard into reverse and drive, harder into drive gear. A po108 code came on, which indicated that the MAP sensor was malfunctioning. Does the map have anything to do with the transmission, because i had to unplug the map. I would appreciate any info. It shifted normally before i changed gaskets.

Sounds like it could be a pressure control solenoid within the trans. A lot of code readers can't pick up certain transmission codes. MAP sensor doesn't interact with the trans.

But that's just a guess. High line pressure can cause hard shifts into gear, and on newer transmissions line pressure is controlled by a solenoid.

. Actually the code reads map circuit, high input. This is from my haynes manual. Can this be corrected or do i have to by new one. thanks!

It could be corrected. Since you just did the intake gaskets, check to make sure your vacuum lines are intact and where they are supposed to be, or that you didn't bump it during the replacement of the gaskets. The first time I did gaskets on my LeSabre, I broke my MAP sensor. They are a bit fragile.

If everything looks okay then it probably needs to be replaced. A new MAP sensor (AC Delco) is $45 at Rock Auto.
