P0420 code fixed now (new cat) now p1441 code

My 2002 SSEI is throwing a p1441 manufacturers control auxiliary emission control code.Advance scanned and gave me this info and sent me to a local transmission shop were he says they can pinpoint the codes.Got it there and after scanning it guy said immediately was probably a piece of trash in the egr valve and i needed to clean it.Most of the posts i read here says its likely the purge solenoid.I noticed the solenoid is alot cheaper so i am hoping its the later.What you guys think? Is transmission shop scanners more accurate than advance autopart scanners and should i just clean the egr 1st and assume the guy knows what he is talking about?

With the code indicating that the evap purge solenoid is stuck open, I don't know why they would think the EGR was involved. Check the vacuum hoses and connections. Also check to be sure the vacuum canister under the car is not damaged. If they're fine, the most like suspect is the solenoid itself.

Checked the vacuum lines and canister today all looks well.Was hoping to get the evap purge solenoid switched out but it will not be here till monday:( ( ordered) The check gas cap light has been coming on and going off as it wishes at certain times.Things i tried on that so far is clean the rust off and bought a new cap, to no avail.Could the gas cap light also be coming on due to a bad evap purge solenoid?

Yes, that is one of the many things that will set that code.

Canister Vent Valve is what advance tryed giving me instead of purge solenoid..got solenoid replaced but check engine light and gas cap light still there.Canister Vent Valve maybe bad? If so this could maybe cause the gas cap light to stay on?

Wooohooo fixed!! After changing Canister Vent Valve check engine light and check gas cap light went out.

Ok, I'm having the same issues, check gas cap, CEL. where is the vapor canister at and what will the vent and solenoid look like and where will they be at? 2000 SSEi. Thanks, Aaron
