Guage Problems

Have any of you guys/girls had issues with the gauges pointing the wrong direction? About 6 months or so ago, my temp gauge was pointing all the way to the red line. I was able to figure out that the needle was in the wrong position by turning off the car. The resting point was straight up and down (pointing at the 200). I didn't have time to pull it apart that week, and by the time I got around to it, the needle was in the right spot again.
Today it started the same thing again. This time, while driving, it's pointing all the way over to the N on the gear tree. I know it's not that hot (cause I haven't blown up yet). sure enough when I turn the key off, the needle is stuck in that position. I searched on here and found THIS thread, but I am not all that great with soldering little/delicate stuff.
Has anyone else seen this? I have not pulled my cluster out yet to verify the motor type that's in there, but being as Sadness described exactly what I'm seeing, I bet this is the issue I'm having.
