first i purchased Matte Black Vinyl off of ebay. you could also use shiny black.

Image
I taped my paint along the window so as to not scratch my paint.
Image
Image
then carefully pry in an upward motion loose the molding. moving along a bit at a time.
Image
Image
then sanded the molding as to not feel the deteriorated section.
Image
then cut a piece of vinyl wider and longer than the molding.
Image
and placing it on.
Image
then trim away excess vinyl with a new exacto blade.
Image
you can use a finger nail to tuck in any part that may be sticking out.
Then replace the molding by aligning up the clips and push down.

Image

you can see here the before (front window) and after (rear window)
Image
Image

now on to the fronts....A little tricky in my case due to my vent shades along the windows.
Image
Image
as you need to remove the mirror to get the whole molding off.
Mirror removal.
gently pry off the tweeter housing and pull off in an upward fashion.
Image
Image
this corner nut is a B**** to get at.
Image
because of my vent visors I could not get the mirror off. So I thought I would try to lift up on the mirror and pull the molding out.
that didn't work. and now its starting to rain
so I put the mirror back on and will try again another time.

started to put everything away and the rain stopped :P

OK I'm going to try something else... how about putting the vinyl on while is is ON the car?

lets try.
cut the vinyl to size.and place on.
you can see here where it will not be put on under the mirrors :P
Image
trim off excess with knife.
Image
Not bad really...

so the rear windows were sanded and the front not sanded. I will give it some time to see how well both stick and let you guys know.

FYI it was much easier to work with ON the car than OFF ;)
you just need to be careful with the exacto knife as well have new blades

Can you give a link to the material you used. Just so we can see exactly what it is you used. I think I will do it to mine to.

Thanks for the plug... those are pretty good deals on vinyl though. You just have to get a 6+ year vinyl... some don't hold up that well.

NHolds,
Do you use MacTac vinyl? I've found their 9800 series is extremely durable in outdoor use. And decals that I printed and "frog-juiced" have lasted 10 years now. That's applied to glass. The big factor here will be the condition of the trim being applied to.

Never tried MacTac.... Use mostly 3M, Oracal, Avery...

Mine are absolutely horrible and they're the only thing holding my car back from looking perfect.

I just did this last week... (Thank Jimbo) I was able to dislodge my mirrors enough to remove the sill and recover them off the car without removing the door panels.

NHolds, all of these are the same... Any chance of offering precut vinyl strips in different sizes? I've seen carbon fiber vinyl and someone may way to do this as part of a color theme.

Yeah, I'd be down for some black carbon fiber look-alike vinyl in pre-cut strips. I could buy some off of eBay, but you pretty much have to buy in bulk - not sure what I'd do with 25 feet worth of the stuff... lol

Crappy cell phone pic.....

I'm not thrilled with it... My sills were pretty bad and I sanded them a little to get them smooth. They're ok for now but I'll probably redo them at one point.

I'm beginning to believe that if I replace the window molding, I may be able resolve a door leak before it starts.

Any ideas?

Jim, that looks friggin sweet and I am impressed with your work. You truly have a great looking car. I don't know how much it is on ebay but ricerzone sells the trim blackout tape for a couple of dollars. I did the same thing on my Regal GS, I used electrical tape and it held up for a few years.
