Hey guys, I have been looking at the newer body style grand prix's to get since I don't have a car anymore and I wanted to get feedback from you guys.
I was wondering what are some common issues with these cars? Are there anything serious? With my bonnie I had the worst luck in the world with it and I am not trying to get into a nother money pit.
If anyone can tell me pros and cons on it please do! Thank you!

They still have the ISS issues, but I don't know of any other major issues. They went to an aluminum UIM and should have the aluminum gaskets by that point, so that's done for you.

The 2004-up Grand Prixs use the Series 3 3800s for all applications save the GXP, which uses the LS4 5.3 V8. IMO the last gen GP is a top notch car, and I strongly considered getting one myself, but I've had a big soft spot for a Bonne for long time. The Bonne is a bit bigger with more trunk space, but thats just my take.
Nomenclature changed a bit on the GPs so be aware, in 04 the GTP CompG was the top level car which packed the supercharged L32 and TapShift trans. The mid-level GT came with the N/A L26 and most of the GTP goodies except HUD.
The GXP replaced the GTP as the top line car, and the GT inhereted the supercharged L32, but no TapShift or HUD. All base models got the L26 engines.
Most last gen GPs I've seen came very well equipped with fold down back seats and a passenger front bucket which also folds flat for carrying long items.
The only owners I know with 04-up GPs that have had trouble with them tend to be those who race or mod and drive the car hard. I dont know of anyone who has parted company with one due to nagging problems. I'm sure they do exist since there are lemons in any car brand.
The first year of GXP had its share of trans issues I believe, but once again, with 303hp on tap youre pushing the limits of almost any transaxle.
Good luck with your shopping and I hope you find something you like. If you do settle on a GP, check out
www.grandprix.net and
www.gpona.com for a wealth of resources and great owners.

Not many problems with my 04 GTP Comp G. In 3 years:
SC idler pulley
MAF sensor
Oil pan gasket (fixed twice - once under warranty)
Brakes (normal wear and tear)
Plugs, wires etc (normal wear and tear)
Thermostat (normal wear and tear)
I like the car, but I do not love the car.

My mom has an 04 gt no running issues but the cloth seats are very uncomfortable unless you are very thin and petite, the bolsters are stiff and stab you in the back when you get in. I think the leathers are better but I haven't had any first hand experience with them

The leather seats are actually really nice...
I'd say if you were going to get one try for an 06-08
The 06 will have aluminum lower gaskets... They were still using the nylon66 gaskets through part or most of 05...
Overall they really seem to be decent cars..

Lots and lots and lots of tranny issues with the GXP's.
Some preventative maintenance should nullify them though.
Loving my 06 GXP.
I would get another any day of the week.

my fiance has a 06 Grand prix, nice car but now that i drive my ssei everyday i cant drive or ride for to long, because the seat are not as comfortable as the bonnes. other than that its a great car, shes been driving for about 20xxx miles, including a trip to San Antonio, TX and the weather strippin around the window came loose. no problems after we fixed it.
