Those are fairly worn plugs. I changed (actually JR's 3800) my plugs last year and they looked better than that with 30K on them.
Yeah, galvanized work gloves would have helped your hands for those rear plugs.

Actually, the back plugs went in easier than the front ones did. go figure. busted the knuckle popping off the plug wire on plug #1, got the fan support.

car has 152 k miles, carfax showed service at around 80k. how old do you guys think these plugs are? how about color, etc?

With the variations in the gapping, I'd say that they at least have 50-60K on them

Those look to be the originals, they have the old style AC logo used up until 1995 I believe. I think 1996 is when everything went to ACDelco rather than just "AC".

Interesting... wouldnt suprise me if those are the originals, i suspect i pulled the factory original fuel filter full of crap off of it soon after i got it. if those plugs do have 152k miles, then wow.

Lets see 152K minus 80k - It's very likely those plugs have 72K on them.

The Plugs you pulled out of the car are the old design Rapid Fire 3 or Rapid Fire 14, Back then either of these would have worked in a 3800...

So yes the plugs have been changed in this car... But I would have to agree that those plugs do have the mileage stated...

The plugs don't look bad, just done basically... So the question is, How much better does it run?

it doesnt run much better. it stutters less, but still doesnt feel like it runs smooth. I plan on doing a full tuneup on it, just pulled plugs this time. hopefully that should really bring it out

You may need new wires too...

Probably, along with new plugs again <the good ones>, o2 sensor, clean maf, iac, etc.

the plastic holding those fans are friggin sharp. You could perform surgery with those *dang* things.

what plugs did you put in there?

Just cheapo champions from autozone. Dont plan on having them in there for long. the car just started losing performance and i was suspecting that was the cause.

In my 89 there was a little rough idle that really annoyed me. I am currently doing the cam sensor magnet http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=8&t=1316 and I have a feeling a little bit of my rough idle is from the cam timing. There was a lot of slack and this:



This is the timing chain damper. This car only has 131000 miles on it. The intake gaskets show that they are not the originals, but the front cover doesn't look like it was ever off. It also lists the same damper fot the 91-94 PA.
