Intake Gasket Replacement

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been on here, but I need to know some information regarding intake gaskets.

Recently I went to the local Buick/GMC (and also formerly Pontiac) dealership and I was told the intake gaskets needed to be replaced. The estimate they got is $700+ just to replace them. Knowing that cost I decided to see if I can replace them myself. I just have a few questions first before I pop open the hood and pick up a wrench.

First, does anyone know of a reliable source or store that have intake gaskets for a 2001 SLE at a reasonable price?

Secondly, do these lower gaskets look correct for the year and trim? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=260726

Thirdly, when it's mentioned that the intake gaskets need to be replaced does it mean that both the lower AND the upper both need to be replaced?

If I could get some answers it would really help me out a lot!

P.S. I know this seems kind of off topic in the General Chat section, but I couldn't find the right year and trim on here in the Techinfo section for intake gaskets.

First, read this post:

When it comes to the upper / lower gaskets, it is only a few more bolts to do the lower and have the added security of knowing they are done. Besides, when they say the gaskets need replaced, they are probably referring to the lower. You could always go back and ask which ones they are referring to and if that includes a replacement upper manifold.

As for the lower gaskets, you can get them from most dealers and intense.

I agree with myfirstbonnie. Do both. My first choice would be the GM metal framed LIM gasket from the dealer or Intense. If you go with the Felpro instead, get the metal framed gasket, not the plastic.

@ myfirstbonnie: I looked at it before and it says the work done on that is a 1997 L36. Is it the same as the L36 in a 2001? That's the thing that's throwing me off.

@ Archon: Now that you mentioned it I think I'll go with INTENSE on this one. I noticed a lot of members on here really rely on INTENSE for parts. Thanks.

Yes, you have the series II 3800, they were used from 95 to 2005. The bonneville never got the series III. There may be a few differences in brackets etc, but the engine will be the same.
