Advice for clearing the ENTIRE taillight?

I know there's a how-to on clearing the amber part of the taillight, but does anyone have a how-to (not necessarily with pictures) on how to clear the entire taillight including the centerpiece? I know the centerpiece is just one long piece but I don't want to dremel around the entire outside, try to silicon it up and have it fall apart on me xD. Same thing with the actual taillight.

I seek advice from experienced members! =)

What are you trying to clear? Here is the way to clear the turn signals, you would just need to take it one step further and I have not heard of anyone doing more than this: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =14&t=1214

Also, the whole tail lights being clear are probably going to get you pulled over by the local law enforcement the first time on the road.

There's a guy on cardomain that did it on an SLE. It looks like sh*t in my opinion. He's referring to the red part. If he ran red bulbs I think he'd be OK. Not sure why you would want to do it though...

however, do NOT GET ME WRONG... i think the centerpiece looks absolutely awful when cleared - HOWEVER, my centerpiece is blacked out, so i thought it would be a great place to start.

i think the taillights look great. centerpiece not so much but like i said, mines blacked out, so i thought i could practice.

this was my first time using a dremel...what an interesting experience.

so after a burned pointer finger and a sliced thumb...I ACTUALLY got absolutely nowhere.

as you will see, i cut as far through as i could and then realized that there was no way i would be getting to that piece without cutting all the way around the outside. so i gave up. im pathetic :(

This picture is an excellent illustration of why it should not be done...

See that reflector in the bottom of the stock light? Not only is it legally required to be there, but it makes your car a great deal more visible if it's parked on the road at night. You may think it silly but it could very well keep your car from getting hit. More often that not those reflectors have alerted me to the presence of a car parked on the side of the road (either at a residence, or broken down) when otherwise I would not have seen them until much later. That extra bit of warning becomes really important to a person whose driving is impaired either by tiredness or intoxication.

Aside from that legal and safety viewpoint, I still wouldn't do it. It looks really weird tbh, center blacked out or not.

My main issue is that I want to try to keep the red reflector IN TACT (not necessarily for the tailpiece, but for the taillights, if even possible).

Glad you kept that in mind. That may (or may not) alleviate any legal issues, and as long as you use the proper color bulbs it will alleviate safety issues as well. But like I said tbh...it still just looks weird.

The red most likely scatters light by the pix as well. The light will not disperse far from the bulbs if you take it out.
