Steering column Removal?
So when I go my car the turn signal switch and all of the stuff in that area were all broken and the signal switch was hanging. My question is Would it be easier to replace all the parts in there individually or would it be easier to go to the pick and pull are just get a whole steering column assembly? Also is there a write up on here that covers the procedure to replace the steering column in whole?

Re: Steering column Removal?
We've got a write-up for rebuilding the column itself. If you remove the panels below the steering column, removing the column is pretty self-explainatory. My bright switch linkage is broken. Some day, I intend to swap the column with a spare that I already have. It just seems easier to me.

Re: Steering column Removal?
yeah I have those panels already off. I was mostly just wondering if there were any special tools for the job.

Re: Steering column Removal?
I think its going to take more than that as it looks like there more broken in there than just the turn signal switch. Do you have a pdf that has the column removal as a whole?

Re: Steering column Removal?
Removal is simple. You already have the panel off, correct??
Now then, there is a grease shield that is right at the bottom of the column. You will need to move it up (pretty sure it's there anyway) to get to the universal joint. You will have to loosen the pinch bolt and spray it down with some WD40 to let it loosen up from the shaft.
Next, undo the harness. Should only be one connector to undo...follow the wiring from the column, you'll see it. It take either a 7 or an 8 mm socket to take it out.
There are 4 nuts that hold the column to the frame....undo the ones closest to the floor first, then work your way to the upper two. Once those are gone, the column should just come out. I would strongly recommend doing this with the front wheels straight btw.

Re: Steering column Removal?
I too recommend removing the column bolts nearest the floor first. If you don't, and let the column sag under it's own weight after you remove the higher pair, the lower nuts are likely to crack.

Re: Steering column Removal?
Thanks sound like a pretty easy fix. definitely sounds faster and easier than pulling the steering wheel and replacing stuff part by part.
