Just ordered my new sub set up

I decided it's time to finally put a sub in my car.
Ordered from sonicelectronix.com:
Alpine type-r 12" Sub w/grill
Orion Cobolt C8001 Mono Amp
Sonic Sub box .7cu ft
Speaker Wire
Amp wiring kit
Bass blockers for the speakers
But the best thing is this:
Vibe Audio Fast Plug
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_249 ... +PLUG.html
I was looking for a quick disconnect so I could remove the sub when I needed to. This will work perfectly.
Hopefully will install this weekend.

great job on the quick disconnect. are you using it for the sub speaker wires or the amp wiring?
and please tell me that .7 cuft box is sealed... and even then it's waaay too small

No I am using the disconnect for power, ground, and remote turn on. The amp will be mounted to the box.
The box is not too small. The type-r specs list a sealed minimum at .55 cuft, and 1 cuft max. I will be stuffing it with polyfil. This will allow the sub to think its in a bigger box, usually by about 30-40%.

pshh manufacturer specs don't mean anything.. ideally you want to read the T\S parameters and decide based on that.. and polyfill only works to an extent.
is all it's gonna do it be quieter, making the amp work harder. that's all i'm saying.

Thanks for your opinion. But I believe the specs are there for a reason, and am basing my decisions off that. They wouldn't exist if they weren't somewhat accurate.
In this case, bigger is not always better. The amp will work perfectly fine, and will be able to drive the sub with ease, and will be more than loud enough.

Make sure you insulate those exposed contacts (set screws) on those connectors. Any piece of metal around inside your trunk........

I plan on shrink wrapping both connectors, so that they look clean and are insulated. Additionally, I think the contacts are inset, but will know more when I get the part.

very good choice on your sub. my computers sitting on top of an Alpine Type E 12" right now.

(not in use, computer speakers died, and i cant hook it up to surround sound, not the same impedance)

(
btw, i like neon.)
Type r's are very good subs, and VERY loud with a lower-tuned box.

Alright. Just trying to help.

Now using an eclipse xa1200. Still fits all my needs, and is a bit more powerful to boot.
Installing next weekend!

I would be careful, hard drives do not go well with huge magnets.

Your Type R is dual 4 ohm coils, right?
and and it's not like the magnet on a type E is that huge, lol.
(no offense)

Yes, dual 4ohm coils.
It will be wired in parallel, to get the 500w at 2ohm from the amp.
Everything has shipped and will be delivered next week. Installing next weekend for sure now.

Awesome. I can't live without low frequencies. You better promise to do install pics.

Please, for yourself, build that box 1 cube at the smallest. I built the .7 Alpine spec box with 2 12 R's in my 2k and Hated it. Yes Polyfill helped, but not much. Next box I built was 1.1 cubes with no fill and sounded a million times better. I now have a 1.5 cube vented built to speck that absolutely rocks.. Just my .02..

I am using the .7 box, as the t/s numbers for the sub show a .85 cuft as the optimum box. The polyfil will bump me up to that range.
Your data is flawed as your box was FAR too small for 2 subs. that was your issue. I am only using 1 sub. Additionally, 1.5 is still too small for 2 subs vented.
/end box discussion
I will be installing tomorrow, and will post pictures then.

Finished the install. Didn't have any major issues, but I still have a few loose ends to tie up.
Alpine type r

It comes with little jumper wires to hook it up in parallel.

Eclipse xa-1200 mono amp

Vibe audio fast plug.

Installed in box

Remote bass gain.

Completely installed.
Overall, love the sound. Can easily be way more than I need, but is easily dialed down to a more comfortable level.
I will be installing the bass blockers next week when my delphi connectors come in. I am building harnesses to retain all the factory wireing.
