Post by EWC88 »

Anyone know were the oil filter is located on this car? Also what kind of oil it takes? Doing it for this girl I know and she has no info on it so I have no idea. Car has 185000 on it, any recommendations on brand of oil? Thanks guys!

Isn't that a canister style, where you have to remove a cover?

If it's like my friend's 97 Sunfire, the oil filter is in a pain in the ass location to reach on the back of the engine (in between the engine and firewall) sort of towards the bottom. But really hard to get to.

No, the canisters were only used on the Ecotecs (which started in 2004, IIRC).

Dan is right on - up in the back by the firewall. I always reached mine from under the car. It's not so bad once you get used to it.

If it is like the 02, my friend has, I got to it by removing the front wheel and the dust cover and it is right there.

Oil brand : I always recommend high mileage full synthetic Valvoline. I put that in my sisters blaze every oil change.

Edit: i like this stuff here http://www.valvoline.com/products/consu ... otor-oil/3

High mileage oil is nothing more than a marketing ploy, IMO. Our 242K Tahoe still runs just fine on the bulk oil from the quickie lubes and gets 60 lbs of oil pressure.

Ive heard that if you have good oil pressure and you aren't losing any oil, then the high mileage stuff isn't really worth it.

I always just buy straight valvoline conventional and use a pureone filter.
