Hi you all. Great forum, there is so much to learn here it's not funny.
I got a 03 SSEi not long ago that was stripped of it's audio- they had an aftermarket on in there, and took it out before they sold the car. Anyway, I got a factory HU off ebay, and installed it, but I got nothing. No display at all, but the bottom row is lit. How can I tell if the part is defective? Does it just need a code of some type? I'm lost here. Thanks for any help.

IIRC the radio has to be programmed with the correct VIN for it to operate. To do that you will need someone with a tech II or take it to the dealer.
Is all the factory wiring intact? You might also have burnt out display lamps:

I agree. Before the radio functions, you'll need to have it programmed by the dealer. Also, most of the display bulbs are burnt out.
If you want to save some money, send the new radio to me and I'll replace the bulbs.

The Display should still display a time, and say LOCKED. If it doesn't do that, then something else is messed up.

Thanks for the replies, y'all.
So you wouldn't be able to read the LCD at all with those incandecents burnt out? The only lights working, it seems, are the bottom row. There is no light from the theftlock led, either. Could there be a problem with the harness or connector? It didn't look like the harness or antennae connections were damaged in any way....
Guess I'll undock it and send it to you before I take it to Joe Blow's Stereo stoe, and he tells me the radio is shot-
Pay for shipping flat rate box both ways and a MO for 34 dollars? Sound right?

You will need to take it to the dealer to have it set up for the car. It will need to be installed. Joe Blow's radio store will not know wht needs to be done.

Send it to Haro before you unlock it. I'm not sure if it will recognize your car again, and it's not worth two trips to the dealer.

Yes, it would still recognize the car. With the display working, it would be easier to see what is going on.

If you send it to me, I can fix it and verify that it works with a tech2 before even sending it back to you.
PM me for details.
