Does anyone else find that the chime (at start-up, keys in while door open etc.) is extremely loud in their GXP? I have had many other vehicles and this is by far the loudest; to the point of being uncomfortable, not just annoying.

Any ideas on how to lower the volume?

I don't think there is a way, unless it can be programmed in with a Tech II at the dealer. Most older people want it louder! My grandpa doesn't ever seem to shut his off, lol.

When I replaced the factory speakers the chime got considerably lower. Don't know how that happened but I'm happy it did. I don't know what the installers did (professional install) but it would be nice to find out for reference.

Not sure on the GXP, but there is a way to adjust the volume on our '03 SSEi, I just don't remember exactly how. I would think the GXP would be the same. Maybe there is a way in the manual?

yep there is a way, its detailed in the manual. I wanted to change them on my SE so I did the procedure (requires holding one of the radio buttons for a few seconds, but I dont remember which ones) and found out they go from loud to WTF loud. yours may be set on WTF loud.

From the manual...

Chime Level Adjustment
The radio is the vehicle’s chime producer. To change
the volume level, press and hold pushbutton 6 with
the ignition on and the radio power off. The chime
volume level will change from the normal level to loud,
and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change
back to the default or normal setting, press and hold
pushbutton 6 again. The chime level will change
from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear
on the radio display. Removing the radio and not
replacing it with a factory radio or chime will disable
vehicle chimes.

Yep, don't know how I missed it but there it is on page 3-106. Now it doesn't hurt my ears!

On a side note, it can also be done with a Tech 2. I forget where I've seen it, but it is there.
