project: 2001 Park Avenue Ultra

Post by harofreak00 »

Got an interesting call last week. A guy said he saw all my craigslist ads for Bonneville parts, and was wondering if I was interested in a Park Avenue Ultra. My ears perked up. He said his father in law bought the car new, and drove it up until a few weeks ago. He sold it to this guy for $500. The guy put brand new tires on the front, and then not even a week later it spun a bearing and the engine is seized up. He said he wasn't interested in putting any money into. The scrap yard would give him $300, and he was just interested in getting his $500 back. He told me everything about it, and I said I was interested in coming to take a look. I went to take a look at it today, knowing that I'd be buying it no matter what I saw. I saw the car, was a little rougher than expected, but totally fixable. I told him I would meet him in the middle of 300 & 500 wiht $400 cash. He quickly agreed. Loaded it up and I was out of there. Just got home. Tomorrow I'll get it to the wash and get the snow off it, and show the good and the bads. Oh, it has 180k miles, and yes that is a nasty dent in the passenger rear quarter.

That looks like a nice score. Is it straight white or a pearl white?

Looks like a good deal. I have a few random parts from the 00 PAU donor. I'll be keeping an eye on this so if I have anything you need I'll say so. Also I know that ProFast Auto in Glenwood still has my car in their yard.

Ahhh -those rims. Those actually aren't the original wheels -those are the upgrade rims for non-ultra's.
Looks like you will definitely have a money maker there... you should convince my dad to sell you the rims and fender port holes from the 04 Ultra in his garage that he can't get a title for.

That will be a great project and I'm sure you'll make a bit of money on it.

What does a good used one run? Kelley Blue Book: $6791 - $7658.

I bet he spends less than $1000 fixing it up. =D>

Should we get a pool together? I say $1500 if he wants to go with a high performance rebuild, since he's gonna be in there anyway. Course, then again this is a haro-flip and not me dreaming.

It's going to be a stock engine. Even if he gets an L32, if it comes with S/C he's gonna throw the Gen III on and sell the Gen VI for a premium. This is haro we're talking about!

Paul, did you run it as retail value and not private party? This is what I get when I KBB it.

Excellent $5,055
Good $4,555
Fair $3,955

Here are some pics after a quick wash.

Its been parked since Christmas with a dead battery, so I'm assuming thats why the rear is hanging so low (it was like that before I loaded it on the dolly). I'm charging the battery right now to see if I can get the back end pumped up.

It was hit in the drivers front corner 6 years ago. You can see some of the twisted metal with the hood open in that corner. Looks like the hood hinges are not original either.
