Security Light On (Pass Key)

I know there were extensive write ups on this in the old site.
Can someone post how to fix the security light always being on (Pass Key)?
I know it had to do with buying a resistor from Radio Shack and bypassing some wires.
Thanks!

Please list your symptoms. This may or may not have a thing to do with starting or the pellet in the key.

Is the light just on? Solid? Flashing? What's it do when you start? Flash? solid? Go out? Does the car crank? Does it start?

Sorry, my security light has been (solid) on for about 4 years now. Starts fine, no problems, just an annoying light on the dash.
I think you posted the fix in the old site, but I never got around to fixing it.

EDIT: oh, and I recall you asking me to check the trunk connector, which I did and that was not the issue.

I would like to add about the Security Light feature in the 2000 model as well.

Mine is most definitely dependent upon temperature.
Car cranks and runs normal. Just sometimes (when it's chilly, usually below 55* F) the Security Light will stay on (not blinking) with the car. If I shut off the car and turn it back on, most of the time it goes back out.

Here is a video of what happens when it's winter.

I know the '99 Model is a different setup but since there really has been no good answer the for the 2000+ models, maybe we could combine ideas and maybe narrow down the target.

I would like to add that my light has not been on for about a month now, but comes on about every other start up in the winter.

If your car starts, it's not VATS/Passkey. It's a general security system fault.

A common culprit is the trunk tamper switch. Remove the carpet from UNDERNEATH the trunk lid. Follow the mechanical cable from the lock assembly to the electrical connector. Disconnect that connector and see if it fixes your problem.

The tamper tab on the lock cylinder is prone to failure over time (with age). It's intended to tell you if someone attempted to break into the trunk without a key.

I already posted in an earlier comment:

I'm going to bump this old thread to the top with a similar question. This question concerns a '99 SE. The Security light is always on, possible VATS/Passkey issue? But with mine, lately, cranking has become effected by either the Neutral Safety Switch or the VATs system as when in Park it will not crank by sound like its trying to engage the starter solenoid, causing the lights to flicker and the gauges to go crazy. I have noticed that moving the column gear shift around will make it crank and run, sometimes putting it in Neutral will allow it to crank and run. This seems to be a hit or miss issue, but is getting worth within a week period.

Do I need to adjust the Neutral Safety Switch on the Trans or look else where?

I am going to unplug the connecter for the Trunk Tamper Switch and see if the light goes away.

Do the adjustment sounds as if not aligned properly to neutral switch at the transmision
