hello to all, i recently had a magnaflow muffler put on my 1993 sse supercharged bonnie. well....i think it sounds like i NEED a muffler!! i guess i'm not used to a preformance muffler. is this the way it's suppose to sound??

Did a shop put it on? have you checked for leaks? Yes it will sound much different than your stock muffler. Ill never put an aftermarket muffler on a 6, its missing two cylinders.

you ought to know, i'm a woman & 50 years old (hetersexual), no kids, so i just take care of my cats, garden and car. i know nothing about mechanics. bought my bonnie new in 1993, all her maintance has been done at the dealership where i bought her. mileage as of today is only 104,000. so then..... a shop (individually owned) was recommened, they welded on the muffler. how would i check for leaks? you say you wouldnt modify it cause it's a 6 cylinder. why? is this magnaflow muffler gonna "hurt" the car? thanks corinne

The muffler in no way will hurt the car. An aftermarket performance oriented muffler will have a very different sound then a stock or stock replacement muffler. Some absolutely love the sound of these engines with an aftermarket muffler, others despise it. If you like it, stay with it. If you hate it, take it back and tell them you want a stock replacement that will be quiet.

I didnt mean that I wouldnt modify it, I have a couple mods on mine. I just dont like how 6 cylinders sound with a performance muffler on. Its hard to outflow the stock exhaust system on my SSEi, and aftermarket mufflers just change the sound. Im gonna guess the shop checked for leaks and what not, so thats probably not a problem. Why did you have the muffler put on? Was your old one rusted through?

Corinne!! Long time no see!! If you could possibly get a video, it would definitely help. Also, as long as there is no popping, etc, it's probably not leaking. The stock mufflers are very quiet, and aftermarkets don't have as many baffles and chambers, letting more sound through.

ahh....the muffler that i replaced was just fine.....i wanted the panther to growl as we consumed the highway!!!

Corinne, you could have a magnaflow resonator installed. The 93's had no resonator from the factory. That should give you a nice sound you can live with.

corinne, you have a very nice sse, with a little powa under da hood, as said above, throw on a resonator or even a glasspack from advance autoparts as they are the same thing and only cost $20 at the store

I agree with the last two posts. A resonator or glass pack can easily be installed in between the catalytic converter and the muffler. You would want to take it back to an exhaust shop so it can be welded in. The glass pack would be the cheapest solution. Be aware that glass packs are usually refered to as mufflers (glasspack mufflers), but they are much different than a normal muffler. That will take most if not all of the crackle out of the exhaust, but still leave a mellow rumble with your high flow muffler. Should sound real good, just make sure they install the glasspack in the right direction as they are directional.
