Bubbling Paint...

My 2000 SSEi is in really good shape except for the paint bubbling underneath the gas filler cap. I already had it repainted once before about 2 years ago. What's the deal. Is there someway of painting this so that the natural flexing when filling up doesn't cause the paint to separate?

I believe there is a piece of foam behind the body panel that holds water causing it to rust from the backside. Removal of the foam would be only way to prevent it from happening again.

I agree. I checked with the body shop that took care of my hood problem, and that's what they said too. They said the only real long term solution is to remove the foam, cut out the bad section as it does rust from the inside out, and weld in a new section. Estimate was about $800!

I third the opinion above; they have to remove the section and patch in a new one, my estimate was only 300, but its still not quite worth it yet.

Well, that's not good news at all! Are all these cars having this problem? I guess there's nothing GM would do about it. Thanks for the input.
