I want a remote start for my car. I'm tired of hearing the IAC through the FWI every time I take off in my car - too dang loud for my liking and I'm tired of everyone asking what's wrong with my car when we leave work or school at night. The car is totally silent (aside from Flowmaster, FWI and audio ) after about 45 seconds of run time. Not to mention, this will make winter driving a lot easier.

Is there such a thing as a standalone remote start that anyone here would recommend? I already have keyless entry with my factory key fob, I would rather not add an alarm/keyless entry either - unless I can somewhat easily integrate the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry with the factory keyless entry (ie I don't feel like running a crap ton of wires, nor do I feel like pulling the door panels because the PO managed to break many of the mounts and I haven't managed to find decent replacements yet). I like the idea with the 2-way long range alarms w/ notification LCD keypads that Viper manufactures, but I'm also not trying to drop a few hundred bucks on this.

Suggestions?

Astrostart i believe made a stand-alone unit that integrated into your factory keyless remote, unfortunately the range was only as good as your factory keyless is.

Pretty much all remote starters have a keyless entry option that controls locks. You just have to hook up the lock and unlock wires. you wont have to open your doors to do it either. All under dash. Except for your hood pin and tach signal wires that go under the hood. If you go to BestBuy and get a basic CommandStart itll do everything. I find them very easy to install. I would not recommend CompuStar. They have theyre good features too, but Ive seen a lot of problems with them losing programming. Its not as big of a deal if you are installing it yourself as you can troubleshoot it if you need to. I prefer Viper. They have a lot of flexibility and they are pretty reliable, with a quick remote response time. The basic remote starter is the 5101a.

MAKE SURE that the model name says 'A' after it. There was a recall on all the 5101 and 5701 units last year. If you want a 2-way that tell you your cars status youll want the 5501. It has an LCD screen that is way better than the old style. You can find the equivalent models in Clifford and Python. They are all manufactured by DEI. The prices are greatly exaggerated on vipers site as well

Also youll need to bypass VATS (that chip in your key). You can do it with a resistor and a relay though.

Anybody ever heard of Ultra Start? They have a lot of features and mine took from sunup to sundown to put in. Be very thorough and patient in the install. All the extra time under the dash will repay you double in painless and durable operation,

I love the remote start. Car is all warm and ready to go and it's great to see the looks on peoples faces when your ghost car starts up in front of them.

I don't think there's a feature to connect to the vehicles anti theft or keyless entry systems :(
