GM has to make parts 10 years after the final car is made. It's a U.S. federal law. They can't flake on that, even if they go bankrupt. They'd have to cease to exist in order to do that, and that isn't going to happen.

75% of the Bonnevilles on this site are already older than 10years though. My 2000 will be next year... thats crazy to think.

But most of the parts interchange with my 03 SSEi, and about half interchange with the SLE, which is covered till 2015. Some 00 specific parts will be hard to find, but in all honesty, it's not AS big of a deal as it seems.

Theres a more developed aftermarket for Pontiac also. Some good, some not so good.

All in all, we should be able to drive them for a long time. Buick Olds and Pontiac are mechanically interchangeable. It does sadden to think of a world without Pontiac though

Dont worry bout it! :)

Not crazy but reality. I know because my cars are so old, just how hard it is to find some key parts.

I don't think I will keep the Bonne more than 5 more years.

They don't have to make the parts for 10 years, but they're supposed to keep the parts available IIRC. As long as they can prove it's a 10year stock of parts then they're OK I believe.

Also releasing designs to places like duralast, napa, etc might have an effect too? If there's a real market, part stores will carry or be able to order a part no doubt.

We are still making weatherstrip for the 95 Lumina and Monte Carlo. We don't run large quantities of
it but at least 2 times a year with about 400 car sets.

If you want to know what will happen to the value and parts availability for Pontiacs, just take a look at Oldsmobile. Parts are still available for them and they have been gone for about 5 years now. The resale value will be bad unfortunately. My Bonneville has lost $4K in trade-in value since I bought it 2 years ago.

$4000 depreciation in two years is pretty darn good.
That much in a year is more normal.

I think resale value will go down for the next 10 years or so on our cars. Probally in about 25 years from now though, cars like the the G8 GT/GXP, Solstice, Firebirds (especially WS6s) and possibly even mint SSEi's could go for some good money at auctions.

So should we bag and tag our SSEi's now in hopes for a windfall in 25 years...........NOT!

Drive the shiit out of them now and crush em in 5 years before the parts run out and are replaced by lithium battery packs. :)

Our cars/ engines are popular enough that they should be supported by the aftermarket for a while.

The problem lies with special car parts that the aftermarket does not have and are only available thru the dealer ....... or the scrap yard.
I have had problems with things like seat belts, trim pieces, accessory parts, EGR valve tubes , etc.
