Yes, it's supposed to be all Bose and the magnet says Bose on it.
The speakers are paper with a small 2 3/4" OD magnet. The bellow is made of cloth instead of rubber. Made in Indonisia.
So what should be a good replacement?
The Pioneers I just put in Grizz sound pretty good for $75 a set.

I like my infinity refferences. They were cheap and sound great. They are not shielded though, they will screw with the compass which is easy enough to relocate
What do you mean by sheilded? I don't see anything special about the OEM's.
These Bose look cheaper than the Delco units I pulled out of the 94 and the magnets are smaller than the 94's were.
I expected better construction. It's no wonder the cheap Pioneers sounded so much better.
So pretty much any speaker will do then as long as it's construction is plastic and rubber with lots of travel and a big magnet.??

go with the infinity speakers they are 2-ohm which is what the factory bose speakers are, if you go with pioneers you will lose volume because they are 4-ohmi
2000 ssei gone but not forgotten

I got some inexpensive Kicker speakers from Crutchfield that sound darned good. They make road trips a lot better. Kudos to my fiancee for holding a figurative gun to my head to get them.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.

Well I took your advice and bought the Infinity speakers.
They sound bad!
The connections are fine. I tried reversing them and that's not it!
I mean they sound OK but I lost my bass!! The volume is waaaaay down on those speakers compared to the others.
Way worse than the Pioneer 4 ohm speakers I installed in the 94!!!
What happened??????

There are a couple of things that may be going on.
You said you tried reversing the wires on the speakers, but did you try reversing the wiring on only one of the speakers? If the speakers are wired opposite each other, they will cancel each other out at the lower frequencies.
Besides that, what are the ohms are the new Infinities? If they're 8 Ohm speakers, and you're replacing 4 ohm speakers, the volume will be quite a bit lower (most of the time). If the infinities are 4 or 2 ohm, then your volume loss is most likely because the wires on one of the speakers is crossed.

Hmm -I've run Infinity reference 9603i's and they sounded pretty darned good. Sure -the bass was only about 80-90% of the original BOSE paper speakers, but the clarity was 300x better which more than made up for it. The Infinity's also produced better lows.
Now I have Infinity Kappa 693.7i's in and they (with only the stock BOSE amp) are back over level of the stock BOSE speakers, but even better bass than the 9603i's and more volume (not much -as the stock BOSE amp is maxing out at 15-18 on my Pioneer deck which goes up to 62-63).
My fix for this will be to plug in the 500 watt amp from a 2005+ Escalade/Denali/Hummer. The newer amps appear to have the same plug as the stock 99 BOSE amp. Just have to verify pinout is the same.

I run refferenecs also, and the bass with the stock head unit was dimisnished, but like stated it was MUCH MUCH clearer than the stockers. Also, when i added an aftermarket HU the bass returned more powerful than it was in stock form.

OUCH!! $300 -that's rape even if it's in currency.
I'd suggest ebaying a set of Infinity Kappa's for $120 American and get the good ones for $100 less Canadian.

Ya I know! I did negotiate for the display units since they were out of stock with none in the warehouse, so I got them for $250. being a firm believer in you get what you pay for.
I think the Pioneer's sound just about as good but my old hearing probably drops off around 100 hz.
I can now turn the volume on the stock HU up from 4 bars to 7 bars with no bass distortion!
