I don't have a machine. What are you guys using to get them good and clean?

Do you have a shop vac?
Just use a hot mixture of water and your choice of carpet cleaner. Agitate and suck as much of it out as practical with the shop vac. Repeat as needed.
Heres a good one:

Meguiar's used to have an amazing QuikOut /w Bissell technology if you can find it, their new one for all Upholstery and carpet seems to work as well from what I've seen (myself), but I haven't really tested it out yet.

Vacuum the carpets/upholstery as best as you possibly can. Remove all the loose stuff that is there. Get a bunch of clean towels together. Mix up some laundry detergent and Oxi-Clean in a bucket with hot water. Don't use alot of detergent, or you'll never get all the soap out of the carpets/upholstery. Get a second bucket with just hot water. Use a towel dipped in the detergent bucket to scrub the surfaces you want to clean, then go over it with a towel dipped in the clear water to get the soap residue out. Go over it until you're satisfied. Go over the area a final time with a dry towel. Vac it when you're finished.

The only thing I use is the regular shop vac. But I vacuum my car out at least twice a week so it never gets dirty enough too use all those special cleaners. Occasianly I will use the household arm and hammer carpet cleaner on the mats but that's about it.
