New Project...

Doing the GTA hood vents, but I'm doing then different then all the others here that have... Im flush mounting them.

I started off by making the template for the Steel plates to be cut too. using a standard gauge steel for the bottom flange, and a 3/32" thick piece for the middle "ring".
corigated CB is the "ring" the white is the flange.

This pic shows how the vent will be level when the project is done.

Once I had all the steel pieces cut (no pics :???: ) I moved on to the hood... I CAREFULLY measured out everything and made cutlines with tape on the hood..
Image
after cutting the hole in the hood, including cutting notchs out of the hood supports and removing a few of the blobs of foam that hod the hood panle in shape (will be replaced soom) I applyed a good coat of 3M Panel bond adhesive to the pieces, put them in place and clamped then for the night.

Come back the next day and removed the clamps , to see this..
A perfectly working vent recess flange..

Then I repeated the process on the other side.. (that where I am now, its drying as we speak..)

more will follow, but as you can tell its coming along nicely, and will look 100x better then this once the metals all straitend out and the hod and vents have a fresh coat of paint to even them out.

Thats what I wanted to do with mine. I still could, but I don't think I'd enjoy riding around with the cut marks and primer splotches on the hood for a year or two. I can't afford to get the hood repainted. I'll just finish the vents the way everyone else has so far, and later on when its time for a repaint I'll make 'em flush.

Awesome work!

Waiting to see the finished product.

Whew! (Wipes sweat from brow)

I'm rediculous with that, I was cleaning my gun the other day when a riding buddy of mine parked his motorcycle next to my truck and put his helmet on the hood. I instinctiely loaded the gun and had to tell myself to unload it. I need therapy.

Same here. I really want to do this with mine, but I'm afraid I'd really screw it up badly. I've located some vents, now I just need to find someone around here to do it for me.
