Don't grease your brake rotors!!!

You don't do that, do you? Are you sure?? The backing plate on my '94 is non-existent where it really should be: right next to the ball joint grease cup. On my car, they are torn/split and grease flows out of them freely. Guess where it could land? On the brake rotor! I have never greased my rotors inadvertently because I know to check a grease job (something a manual will never tell you, something "quickylube" technician doesn't know). I put paper towels in between the ball joint and rotor before I lube the lower ball joint and squeeze out excess grease onto the towels.

I have searched for replacement boots, but they are not available as far as I can tell (they are proprietary to the ball joint manufacturer apparently). Replace ball joints for torn boots rather than do the preceding? Not me!

I've used both the HELP dustboot and the Energy Suspension urethane boots. Even steering tierod ends that are new now have slip-on boots instead of them being integrated.

That's would be good info if it was relevant: Tie rod ends are not ball joints.

There's absolutely no reason to be an ass about something trivial...especially in a nearly useless obvious topic.

Most of us are quite aware the difference between a *dang* tie rod and a ball joint.

Boots are available as far as I know, but you'll obviously need to get the knuckle off the joint first.
