I have a 1993 SSEi with about 150k on the engine/ transmission. Cosmetically, the front driver side fender with a hole in it, the driver side seat i worn, and the interior lights don't work at night because I blew a fuse somewhere when I was replacing the headliner. My transmission just died- the clutches have gone bad. I paid $500 for it, and I love this car a lot

I write all of this so that whomever decides to reply can have a good background before they answer a few questions for me.

1. Is it worth saving? Should I shell out the cash for a rebuilt/used 4T60e HD and pay for someone to install it?

2. Should I part it out? sell the block/supercharger and save the money for my next 3800 powered vehicle (1997-2002 Grand Prix quite possibly)

3.Should I sell the whole car?

4.Some hidden option that I'm not considering yet.

As always this forum has been a godsend extremely helpful and friendly community, and I look forward to your replies

If the rest of the issues do not bother you, then get a new transmission.

If the entire car needs work, ask yourself if it's worth fixing, and what else could need replacing in another year.

Can I have first dibs on your headliner!

Doesn't sound to me like parting out is an option. Not if you can't work on automotive suff where you live. You'd have a giant mess.

If you're determined to have a '93 SSEi, you love this car (and a lot of us love these cars, even not supercharged), the engine is good, and you can afford to put several thousand dollars into it, then go for it. You wouldn't be the first to hate to let 'em go. I expect my plain old '94 to make me happy for many more years.

On the other hand, someone in the club (or another club), may want to have a parts car. That was a suggestion I read just the other day in one of the forums.
Since your outlay wasn't much, you could probably do OK. Put a post in the buy/sell section, with pics, your location, and how much you want for it.

Sometimes members sell their nice SSEi's for less than it would cost you to put a fresh transmission in your own. That's another possibility.

Again, thank you for your inputs (I really don't want to sound like a kiss up- but I do really appreciate it), me and my wife have decided to sell it as a parts car. For those interested I'll put a listing up in the buy/sell forum.

We've decided that we'll save up for a 97-03 Grand Prix gt or gtp (whichever is closer to $3k or so) After a lot of research it seems that the Grand Prix will meet our needs the best. So I'll be spending my time in the Other 3800 powered cars forum in the coming months

I think you made a good decision.

You get a lot of delight out of keeping an old Bonneville going, but if you have more important uses for the money, then you go that route.

Check the "wanted" forum. I think I saw someone looking for most of an SSEi parts car in there.

(Take a look, if you haven't already, at the GP that JammieM and her husband bought in this '92-'99 forum. Their situation was a little like yours).

Throw a stacked-plate transmission cooler onto that while you're changing the filter on the new car's transmission. It'll help a LOT in city traffic, and you can disconnect it during the winter.
