Finally got around to replacing the fog light bulbs. What a PITA. The car does look great with them on, though. Any GXP owners know how to disable the headlights as DRLs? From what I've heard it's different from the other 00+'s.

It's pretty easy, just pull the fog light relay and your done.

You mean the DRL Relay? I'm assuming I don't need a jumper, as the lows are the DRL's instead of the highs?

Yes that is correct. I was thinking fog due to the thread topic but your right, it is the DRL relay. No jumper is needed in the GXP. Another thing you will notice is that with the GXP when you turn your brights on the low beams turn off but on the older models they stayed on.

Yup, just pull the relay.

Anyway, I did curse myself. Last Thursday, of course during the snow storm we got, my drivers side went out...

It won't go out on a nice day, only when it's pouring, snowing, etc, etc...

LOL, that usually happens like that. Dad won't let me disable the DRL's, he likes them for safety. Whatever, it's his car, he can have it how he wants it I guess...

hahahaha... Well, i cursed myself around the same time... I had my 100 watt H3 bulbs in for alittle over 2 months when the driver side went out last week... I got a set on the way that i got on ebay for $5 shipped for two blubs... Guess i should have ordered a few sets so i can have them on hand. Oh well better than every 2 weeks

Yea, good habit to get into. Whenever I go to Advance or AutoZone and see a bunch of H3 100watt bulbs, I clean them out. :)

Wow! I just read through this thread and I'm glad I did. When I bought my GXP last week (from out of state) I had my local dealer go over it and one of the issues he found was both fog lights were out. I thought it was odd as I have never had fog light issues with previous Bonnevilles and Grand Prixs, and my current GP GXP has similar fog lights to the new Bonnie.

So now I know what and why and how to deal with them. The 'stealer' charged me $40 for the two bulbs, $53.20 for labor, which I thought was robbery (what could it take to swap out two bulbs?!) until I read this thread.

Thanks for the insight. I'll do it myself next time. The HID's are tempting too.

Stealer did rape you on cost. They take 20 minutes to install, max. The bulbs cost maximum of $10 each. So that means they charged $150/hr labor? Bulbs on the GXP have been fine since when I posted in December, but knowing my luck they'll go out in 2 days. *Knocks on Wood*

I think they charge about $70/hr for labor, so it probably took him about 45 minutes. Maybe the mechanic wasn't as experienced with this process as all of you guys! :)

FWIW, I had never done it before. If he's ASE certified, he should have more experience than I do, so he must've had a cigarette break in there or something, lol.

FWIW, I checked my fog light switches tonight; not lit.

Did you guys determine that they were supposed to be lit from the factory or not?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Foglights on both cars stay on when you shut the car off and turn it back on. They only shut off if you hit the button.

:) I meant the fog light switches. Most here have been reporting that theirs are not backlit like all the other switches.

Mine are. I think you're thinking of the Heated Seat switches?

Yea, your switch will be lit. See my pic below. When they're on, there is also a little yellow pin light in the switch indicating they're on;

As to the bulbs and replacement, as mentioned, I think an H3 100w bulb is less than $10 (as mentioned), but as you do this as often as we have, you'll get the swaps down to just a few minutes. :)

Doh! My bad. I must have been tired from all the reading I've been doing on this forum. I was indeed referring to the heated seat switches - not backlit. Phew. Glad I finally got that cleared up.
