I repaired the muffler on the winter car today. Due to a poor quality clamp mixed with Michigan potholes the muffler fell off. I went back for it an threw it in the trunk and went on with going to the auto show. The very second I cross from Detroit to Dearborn I get pulled over and asked if I thought my car was loud. I told the officer that yes it's loud because the muffler is now in the trunk because it fell off. No ticket but it is quite annoying that it happened right after it broke.

Well at least you had proof to back up your story if you needed to! Does the 3.4 sound like a barfing giraffe as well lol? No ticket is all that really matters though!

It sounds exactly like a 3.8 with no muffler. When there is working mufflers and the cone filter I have on it, it sounds like a 350Z when you get on it.

I was gonna say, 3.4's actually have quite a nice tone to them uncorked.

Yeah, once I put the cone filter on it, I really like the noise it makes when I pass people.

Today I changed out my VSS because the car decided it didn't want to use other gears than third and the speed didn't work. In the 5ish months I've been using this car exclusively, I think I've had to repair more on it than the 04 since I've owned it, which by the way started the first try today after not being started since Christmas.

I loved mine when I had it, but it never loved me back

That's always been a worry since I first noticed where it was.

Noticed the driver side inner stop light is out, 2000+ problems. Don't want to drop $100 on LEDs, however.

I can't relate enough stories, asking customers of "X" motor cars, when we had it in for anything like A/C or other work on the accessory drive, that while we had the sub-frame dropped... "DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR WHILE WE'RE IN HERE?"

99% of the time, the answer was "No". And we would have to re-iterate, that "I don't think you understand... When it DOES go out, we will have to do this ALL again..."

All the more reason I want to unload this thing hopefully over summer. Either that or if it ends up not being too rusty maybe fix the rear suspension and maybe put a 3800 in it. Probably the first thing more likely. I do like the car to some degree but it is 20 years old now.

Did… you.. just say.. drop subframe to replace… the alternator? Did I read that correctly?

Why do you people like these X cars again? And don't say the sound, it only sounds marginally better than a 3800.

Yes.

Again, this is one of the couple main reasons GM discontinued it. It was a nightmare to warranty repair *shoot* on. Take book time for a 3.1 engined car and double it in most cases.

(couldn't get the serpentine belt to tighten, was routing it just a little wrong, thanks to quick thinking of carl (nos4blood) and his picture of his diagram sticker ((which i need to get one for my car)) i was able to get it successfully installed)

Drove a few too many miles. When I bought it the third week of August 2013, it has 58,851 miles on it.

That is not even broken in for a 2000-2005 Bonneville, you have another 100k easily if you can avoid rust!
