The fabrication he did for that mount on the core support brace is absolutely necessary, the support brace itself is really not strong enough to handle the pressure that would be applied under load from the engine, it would just bend.

That support is little more than sheetmetal.

Why so worked up over the motor mount? Pat didn't need those mounts until he was in the 12's. You have a long ways to go before needing that additional mount.

$170 for the OEM mount is bogus, highly inflated margins for dealers and parts distributors, for a part that doesn't last worth crap. The hockey puck mount came about namely because it was easy for anyone to make from parts sourced locally and basic tools (most complex being a drill), and it flat out works.

I had 0 vibrations at cruise and idle in my SSEi with my solid front mount.

OK here is the deal.

The Hockey pucks are a spacer as mentioned. They only really act as a dampener when your in Reverse or in Park/Stopped. The motor will torque towards the firewall opposite of the hockey pucks, but we all know this.

I was able to launch the car harder with the additional upper mount. HOWEVER I took that car into the 12's and making over 300 whp with the Hockeypucks only

if you plan to do this you MUST add the support,

I am one of the formentioned show cars, and I didn't tell you wouldn't know it was not a stock mount.

Right, the puck itself is not really doing anything. What is happening, is essentially the engine is being bolted down with the threaded rod. The oem mount doesn't last due to not have a threaded rod going all the way through and every time gas is applied while in drive, the mount is being split open like a coconut.

I think these cars not having an upper engine mount is a design flaw. HP has nothing to due with it. I see (on the internet) W-bodies and A-bodies with the dogbone mounts and wonder if they have the same issue?

I agree, especially when you compare the torque of a 3800 to the torque of the 3.1.

From an engineering perspective, the hockey puck makes more sense than youd think. Basically it.takes a.tension load and turns it into compression. If you found a softer middle insulator, normal drivi.g would likely be just fine. I have an energy endlink on both ends of my mount and pucks in the middle. Nice and easy, super cheap, and who cares how it looks under the hood? That stuff makes it go, im not trying to make it pretty.

I make as much power as any bonneville i know of and its never been a problem. I have no balance shaft and an s1x cam withb1.8 rockers and its not disruptive. You know the engine.is there but nobody has commented on it.

I am worked up because a carbureted 2.8L 1980's Chevy Celebrity has it but we don't?

the funny thing is that some W body guys have fabbed up a Bonneville Mount for extra support

There are lots of different ways of mounting an engine. The bonneville setup is cleaner and allows better access for repair.

Rather than pulling on the mount with nothing solid running trough it, the puck mount has a bolt that goes all the way through and compresses the endlink bushings on either end.

Corvette mounts seem like they will work. they come in pairs so you and a buddy can get together and have a affordable mass produced mount that wont brake.. i have posted a few times but have not tried them.. all measurements indicate they will work nearly perfect.
