Yes, like that, except the rest in black. And without the blower.

I'm worried that the harness might be a little too much. but the old tubing wrap is brittle and falling off and will need to be replaced either way.

Sweet, thanks. This build is funded almost entirely by the money I bring in there so every little bit helps.

Spent the better part of the afternoon making keychains for an upcoming show but I did manage to sqeeze in enough time to get the base coats on the covers. About 7 light coats. Went with gunmetal. The stripes aren't done yet, still trying to find a good colour. I'll probably brush them on by hand.

Not much else to report. Tomorrow I'll tackle the airbox and/or painting the STB. Not a lot I can do here at the apartment...

I've painted three that way so far with the red accents. The best paint to use is the Duplicolour Caliper paint. It's the right colour and does not chip or come off. Very durable, thick and it is easy to brush on using the right size brush. Lacquer clean up only.

Here's the update, much got done and so little got done. Made the drive out to don's to make some progress, but spring is in full force here in Florida and the orange groves are blossoming causing our allergies to kill us. I envy your snow... so we didn't get a tenth of the things we wanted done.

we started by breaking into the motor to see if it was as clean inside as we hoped.
Image
By the looks of it yeah. It is.
Image
We're even starting to doubt the claim that this motor has 70K on it. Way too clean.
Image
We got it off the skid and onto a stand.
Image
You two get to know each other now, I need you to be best friends.

At this point the pollen chased us indoors, not much else to report from today.

Oh yeah, found this weird looking thing. Guess I'll have to use it.
Image

The next post will update you on some of the painting I've done over the week. Photobucket is being a PITA.

Over the week I took a rattlecan to a few Items, The Valve covers as you see above as well as the STB.
Image
Yup, that looks like arse. :booty2:

I was originally going to spray it solid red, just like the bar on my Buick but changed my mind at the last minute. Wound up with this:

Here's a mock up in the empty bay. I think I like it.
Image

That's all for now. I'm just about finished with my zero restriction air-box mod. Should be growly. Probably make some of you angry. That's how I like it. Stay tuned for that.

I like the red bar with the silver brackets. Looks tasteful. I might remove my redneck electrical tape and do the same.

Thanks, it's gonna need touching up but I'll wait until it's installed and torqued in. It's all dupli-colour spray. the red is the 500 degree engine paint and the ends are the gunmetal/graphite wheel paint, same as the valve covers and some other brackets and whatnot as you'll see later.

the secret of course is many light coats.

Getting ready to sit down and watch the race. Go JR.

looking for a little busy work while I watch, Gonna finish prepping these T-stat housings. get all the casting numbers and flash off of them. Not sure if I should do it red or gunmetal So I'll do one of each. We'll see how it looks on the finished motor.

Should keep me busy.

Good to see that it's going to get a paint refresh! Motor looks clean too, means the PO actually changed the oil on a regular basis, the perfect replacement motor!

I got one finished up, but the Corrosion on the other was pretty harsh, so I'm not gonna bother. about a dozen light coats, and a separate polishing of the brass bleeder. Looks pretty. I've got to remind myself that this isn't a show car...

Today I tackled this monstrosity.
Image

We all know that this may very well be the worst airbox ever made. It's all baffles and cigarette butts. Wait what?
Image

A bit of work with a drill and the rear baffle came right out. A little work with a file and that'll be good to go.
Image

Image
I know most people just cut out this little square on the front and pull the front baffle. I took it a step further. I figured I'd remove any possible restrictions and open it up. It still looks stock from above and should growl nicely... Image
still need to clean up the edges with a file but I think we're in business.

Gonna be a slow week, still waiting on a handfull of parts before we can slap the motor together. Going to try and get the old rubber off the wheels and get them painted. then the task of hunting down good and affordable rubber is on.

Just waiting on a box of goodies from Intense, and hopefully the pollen count will be manageable. this weekend we hope to get the porting and polishing done and hopefully get the motor buttoned up. Then it's onto the transmission...

In the mean time here's the "finished" valve covers. They'll be getting a few coats of clear but this is what they'll look like.

Image

I used the Wheel caliper paint as suggested by silverbullet but my brushing technique isn't nearly as good as my rattle-caning... I'm not thrilled with the result but hey, this isn't a show car...
