Ported box will give you bigger deeper bass.. being in the trunk you wont hear the fluttery sound from the air moving out the port.. Not to mention you can run a lower power amp (the sub doesnt have to work as hard to move like in a sealed box). Sealed boxed usually will be smaller then a ported box to make optimal sound levels. each sub is differnt tho.. i had a pioneer sub that was recommended in a sealed box.. never hit hard or deep in a Spec sized box.. put into a vented box and BOOM she pounded...
Larger Vent-Ported box (~2-2.5 cu/ft) is what i would recommend especially if you are running a single sub and a 300-500 watt RMS amp.
Ported boxes are "Tuned" already for different freq. Port size and length will effect the SPL (sound pressure level... How loud it gets) and output Freq. most production boxed will be tuned for good low and mid freq. to give you good SPL. Being in a trunk of a car SQ isnt as much of a concern as in a open hatch/suv.. cause you wont hear most of that anyway.
Good Luck
