Thank you! If I let that happen to me, I'd be driving a stock car. Either one of them mind you. :btruestory:

She'll have headers and a 4 inch pulley. Top swaps aren't as horrible as this forum makes them out to be when they're done right. I'm not gonna be one of those Grand Prix guys who drops the top of an L67 on a 250,000 mile L36, beats the snot out of it at every light, and decides to run a 3.2 pulley on a stock tune.

No need to get a 4" MPS, just run the stock 3.8" pulley till you can move down...

For me it's just a peace of mind type of thing, Ed. For now anyways. I wanna get it all done, run the 4 for a little bit while I save up for a Scan Gauge and the headers, and then I can move down to a 3.8. And that's where it's staying. She's being relegated to a full time DD after this. Time to get a project car. I've had enough of FWD boats.

Get the scan gauge first, then just keep a stock pulley on whatever S/C you get.

Nothing wrong with being too sure of things before running a pulley that size on a L36...

Just understand you are putting stress on internals that were never designed to take it. It may not break for a very long time...sure...but then again it may break the next day. Your chances are far higher than a L67, quite honestly I'd check LKQ's stock and just swap a motor in. But, you do what you like.

On Series II cars (N/A RPO L36, S/C Remained L67), it has been proven that the L36 bottom end will handle boost. However, it was not designed for boost, and is at a higher risk of failure.
I get what you're saying, but with a 4.0 pulley, he'll put out what, 6-7 psi? I have seen more psi put on these with turbos etc. I don't think he should run too much lower than a 4.0, but I think that is a good happy medium.

Also, what he is looking for out of this, is just a little more pep for a daily driver. I can't blame him. Would I do it myself is neither here nor there. As long as he does it right, I see no major issue. He does enough research beforehand on anything he does to know the pros and cons. Which is why he decided not to go turbo. I will give him respect for the way he is doing it, and the fact that he is getting what he wants out of his car, in the safest way possible. Just my opinion of course. :)

Basically what Will said. On a 4.0 inch pulley I'll be making more power than a stock L67, plus I have 3.05 gears, so I'll accelerate faster too. I'm not dropping to a 3.8 unless I got to a strip to race. She'll be sitting pretty with the 4.0 inch. I just can't deal with the gutlessness of this L36 anymore. Toting 5 people around daily with all their things in the trunk makes it really kinda pathetic. Sure she's not halfway bad when it's a cold night with just me in it. I've gotten 0-60's under 8 seconds easily, but seriously, no. Just no. A 205 HP V6 has no business being in an almost 2 ton sedan, especially these days, when some punk rolls up next to me in some new Scion or Hyundai or Toyota and brutalizes me once I fall off my torque curve.

all i guy ever needs^^^
id would have to vote for a compete engine transplant. I had my l67 swap done with the hd trans and im pretty happy with it. it came out a complete good running trans and engine and thats (pretty much) the same way it went back into my car. makes me feel more safe that it wasn't all molested with internally.

I ended up ditching this idea since Penny has turned into a sh*thole. But in any case, I doubt that eBay kit will do anything at all.

That ebay kit is a glorified computer case fan...

With your username, you could always opt for a small nitrous kit. Just don't go stupid with it and it *should* last for a while.

Nah. All the money Penny ever sees anymore goes in her gas tank. College has drained me completely of the $$$$$$$$$. Any and all money that I can put away is going towards something which shall most importantly be stick and RWD. Preferably an LS1 Trans Am Ttops. But that's a dream, a hazy hazy dream.

If your are going to do any kind of power adder, Turbo the Stock L36..
- about equil work to doing a top swap
- has been proven to make great power on a stock motor (more then a Top swap)
- less abusive to the trans then a SC
- more potential in the future, no pulley system needed add a boost controler and go.
- Sweet turbo spoolup/BOV
- easier to intercool
- an be put back to stock easier if you ever want to sell or part out, more demand for turbo kits then top swaps
- tuning is much like modding a L67, many guys will share their tunes with you.
