I understand a Reindeer (caribou) is a huge animal, but is the best option really to steer in the ditch? I've always been taught that it's better to hit it and have a dead animal to show my insurance than flip my car in the ditch and make it look like I lost control and have to pay more in Ins.

I think MN's winters are bad, but at least our snow doesn't *usually* start flying till mid-November...
You won't be showing your insurance anything when you're dead. Quite a few people in Northern Ontario have died hitting big animals. I distinctly remembering a police officer killed in the line of duty a few years back when their Crown Vic took on a moose head on.

If it's bigger than a deer, you probably want to avoid it. You wouldn't consciously intend to hit another moving car for insurance purposes, would you?
