Im not saying that the heat expansion statement is gospel but I don't think that a 3800 makes as much heat as a 5.3L.

Im sure there is a very good reason that the flex is there, they wouldn't have been like 'Lets just put a flex here for no reason!'. Im sure it makes install easier in some way. Thorley is a very reputable company and have been around for a very long time.

Why does there need to be a flex joint on the crossover?
Because both banks attatch independantly to the main collector. On most 3800 setups the Front merges with the rear, has flexible area, then main pipe.

My guess is that it's used to mitigate warranty risk. Spend a few bucks on each set with the flex, save a bunch of warranty replacement sets.

But they collect infront of the flex section. I can't say I'm a fan of the thorely design, as the main pipe moves, it will require the front bank to flex more than the rear, either twisting the main exhaust slightly, or putting uneven stress between banks.

Assuming the rear bank has a flex section between the header and the collector. It's not in the pix, but that's what I was assuming.

Found out that the flex tube is basically just to aide in installation, here are a couple vids of the aftermath:

Hopefully it's going to the tuner in the morning as well as welding the factory cat-back back up, straight headers are a headache!!!

Grand Prix GXP or Bonneville GXP? The Bonne GXP doesn't have the LS4 so they won't work if thats what you bought.
Not to mention the Northstar's crossover pipe doesn't go over the engine trans like the 3800, LS4, etc... It is crammed and flattened into a slight void under the engine/trans in the subframe. So even running some aftermarket units (if they were even made), would create some packaging issues... :D

Anyway, >$1,000 for a FWD set of V8 headers isn't badm considering most sets of LSx long tube headers for F-Body's, Vette's, and particularly GTO's hover in that range too!
