Speaking of cost, I wanted to get a Chrysler unit for our van. Thinking it was their new StarSCAN unit, which makes a Tech 2 price look like the price difference between the latest hi-tech laptop vs. a speak and spell, I was astonished to see the prices of even USED StarSCAN units. $5k was the norm... Then I realized, our van is an older Chrysler platform, and it probably isn't even compatible with it, and most likely uses the DRBIII. Sure enough, it does. Thinking that the old DRBIII being way outclassed by the new StarSCAN would be cheap... WRONG!!! It still hovers USED in the $3k price range...

So Tech 2's are cheap by comparison... :)

Point taken. I could actually use a Tech2 right now. The wife's Rainier has had an issue crop up a couple times where I turn the ignition and the starter cranks and cranks and all the idiot lights are on but it's like it's not getting any fuel. It eventually starts, and then will be fine for awhile. It's actually only done it twice, both times to me (luckily) with a week of her driving it in between with no trouble. I pushed the OnStar button over the weekend and had them run a diag but they didn't turn up anything. Weird.

Of course, it's 4 months beyond warranty.

fuel pump. GM trucks are notorius for this. I've replaced more than my fair share over the years. :)

If it's only 4 months, dependant on mileage, go back and ask if they'll "goodwill warranty" it. A good dealership will, or maybe work with you on price if they can't goodwill it. We did this all the time.

That's great advice. I'll try that. She's due for an oil change anyway. I was up there today in fact and saw them do just that - goodwilled a repair for a customer that was just out of warranty.
